The Ultimate Guide to Rio's Sunset Spots🌅

After staying in Rio for 60 days, I’ve explored all the sunset-worthy corners—from beaches to mountain tops, from busy markets to hidden viewpoints. Here are 9 of my favorite spots, each one capable of engraving "romance" in your memory~ Pedra do Arpoador Rio’s most popular sunset spot! Standing on the rocks, you can see both the white waves of Ipanema Beach and the outline of Morro Dois Irmãos (Two Brothers Mountain). When the sun sets, it dyes the sky pink-orange, and even the sea breeze carries warm light✨ Ipanema Beach The sunset here is more "story-like" than Copacabana—facing the direction of Morro Dois Irmãos and Vidigal favela, the setting sun lights up the favela’s red roofs, hiding tenderness in the contrast. Recommend the posto8-9 area: there are coconut stalls on the beach, so you can sip coconut juice while waiting for the sunset, and transportation is convenient too~ Copacabana Beach It lives up to its reputation as the "world’s second most beautiful beach"! At sunset, the waves break the golden light into stars, people’s shadows on the sand stretch long, snack vendors turn on warm lights, and even the air smells of roasted corn🌽 Mirante do Leme A "fishermen’s same style) viewpoint" hidden at the end of Leme Beach! It’s quiet here with few people; you can watch fishing boats float slowly in the sunset, and the fishing uncles occasionally share their "best sunset viewing angles"—super fun~ Pontal da Glória A "double surprise" near the airport! On one side, the sun sinks to the sea level; on the other, planes fly low over the sunset. The roar of takeoffs and landings mixes with the sound of waves, like watching a co-production of nature and the city✈️ Praia da Barra da Tijuca The "relaxation king" in the south! It’s half as crowded as Copacabana, with sand soft enough to sink your feet into. At sunset, you can see the shadows of distant palm trees twisting in the water—perfect for spreading a blanket and lying until dark. It’s super close to Jardim Atlântico metro station—lazy-friendly~ Trilha do Morro da Urca A must for hikers! It takes half an hour to climb the "small hill" of Sugarloaf Mountain—just set your GPS to Pista Cláudio Coutinho for the entrance~ From the top, you can see the whole view of Sugarloaf Mountain, and the setting sun dyes the mountain golden-red—stunning! Note: You need to go down before 5 pm, otherwise you’ll have to pay for the cable car; if you take the cable car back, watching the sunset from the height is even better—the whole city glows under your feet! O real mureta da Urca A "framing master" in the city! Unlike beach sunsets, here you can frame Christ the Redeemer, modern buildings across the river, and nearby white sailboats in the same picture. The setting sun shines on the stone wall—every casual photo looks like a movie still. Take a taxi to Urca Grill, then walk a few steps~ Parque das Ruínas A "high-altitude hidden gem" in Santa Teresa! It’s both a gallery and a viewpoint—standing on the ruins, you can see the city center’s airport, Sugarloaf Mountain, and old town buildings. At sunset, the old town’s red roofs are lit up like scattered gold. Further up, there’s a viewpoint overlooking the favela, full of life at sunset, but you need a local to go with you at night. If interested, you can DM me for the location~ #SunsetCollector #WantToRecordThisMoment #BeautyOnTheTrip #ExpatLife #Sunset #RioDeJaneiro #Brazil #SouthAmericaTravel
