The Unique Charm of a Century-Old Building ⛪️ Church of Saint George
Perched atop a small hill (though not very high, the climb can still be a bit tiring), this century-old Orthodox church exudes timeless elegance. Its white marble exterior and emerald-green dome stand in striking contrast against the blue sky and lush greenery, creating a scene of serene beauty. Inside, the church is adorned with magnificent biblical frescoes, some embellished with gold leaf. Above the entrance, a striking depiction of Saint George slaying the dragon catches the eye—with a humorous historical twist: the king at the time had his own face painted in place of Saint George's! 🪦 Beneath the church lies a royal crypt, where kings and queens are buried. (I opted not to descend for a closer look.) 🎨 Just a short walk away, there’s a small art gallery that few visitors explore. Without an expert guide, most would simply admire it superficially. Our guide shared fascinating stories about the royal family—proof that historical sites truly come alive with the right narration! #VisaFreeTravel #OrthodoxChurch #ChurchOfSaintGeorge #SaintGeorgeAndTheDragon
