Third Visit to Kalaya for Thai Milk Tiramisu 🥧
🌟 Kalaya If you're looking for a high-value Thai meal with mind-blowing flavors, this might not be the place for you. This is hands down the most hyped Thai restaurant in Philadelphia, thanks to awards, catering to Western tastes, and a great ambiance. However, this also means it's not very cost-effective. I wouldn't recommend making a special trip here. The overall flavors are quite heavy, and the use of spices could be better. But if you want to have a nice Thai meal with friends, it's worth a visit. 🥗 Laab Ped: A slightly spicy duck salad with overpowering spices. $25 🍝 Khao Soi Nua: I always order curry noodles when I see them on a Thai menu. The beef in this dish is very tender and flavorful. Yum! $30 🐔 Gaeng Gai Khao Mun: Decent curry chicken. The portion is small, but it comes with curry sticky rice, a spicy boiled egg, and lettuce (not sure if I remember all the sides correctly). $28 🦀 Khao Pad Pu: A pretty standard crab fried rice. It's quite fragrant. However, I think Mawn's version of this and khao soi is better. $35 🥩 Sua Rong Hai: A medium-rare beef dish that my family member liked, but I thought it was just okay. $39 🍮 Tiramisu: Thai milk version of tiramisu. It's a bit too sweet and can get cloying if you eat too much. Maybe it's because I was already full, but this was the first time I didn't finish the tiramisu. If you've never had Thai milk tiramisu, it's worth a try. $14 🥤 Thai Sodas: I went with pandan and coconut flavors. They were alright, and definitely helped to cut through the richness. $8 After three visits, Kalaya is still my top pick for Thai food in Philadelphia. There aren't many standout Thai restaurants here, to be honest. The atmosphere of a restaurant is important to me. Where you eat matters... I had a Thai meal at Lin Junjie's place two years ago, and it was pretty average, both in terms of food and ambiance. But since many netizens have recommended it, you might want to give it a try. 🅿️ The street parking can be a bit tricky to find. Maybe try N Front St. #WinterDinner #Philadelphia #PhiladelphiaFood #RestaurantHopping #FoodieDiary #PhiladelphiaLife #RestaurantReview #WarmMealsInWinter #LocalFavorites #ThreeMealsADay #TributeToThisMeal #SoloEating #LocalFoodRecommendation #PhiladelphiaThaiCuisine #ExploreEats #FoodieCheckIn #PhiladelphiaSoutheastAsianRestaurants #PhiladelphiaThaiFood #SoutheastAsianRestaurant
