Three-Day Itinerary in Tucson
1. ππSaguaro National Park - West π΅The Saguaro National Park is divided into two sections, the East and the West. The distance between them is over an hour's drive. The cacti in the West section are more densely packed. ππ΅π It's a remarkable place filled with the unique charm of the desert landscape. When you enter this area, you'll be surrounded by these wonderful cacti. πποΈπ π΅Navigate to the Red Hills Visitor Center or simply input 2700 N. Kinney Road. It's easy to find your way there and start your exploration. ππΊοΈπ This will lead you right to the heart of the park's western area where all the adventures await. ππΆββοΈπ΅ π΅The free Guided program is highly recommended. We participated in the Garden Walk this time. The ranger introduced 12 kinds of local plants, including the Saguaro cactus. It was both informative and interesting. You can check the programs and their timings on the official website of the national park. ππ³π₯οΈ It's a great opportunity to learn more about the local flora and enhance your understanding of this special ecosystem. πππ‘ π΅Drive around the Bajada Loop Drive. Along the way, there are two small trails worth recommending. The Valley View Trail (0.6 miles round trip) and the Signal Hill Trail (quite short, with rock paintings left by Native Americans). ππΆββοΈπΌοΈ These trails offer different perspectives and allow you to discover various aspects of the park's history and natural beauty. ππ£π΅ π΅For a slightly longer trail, the Sendero Esperanza Trail (3.4 miles round trip) is recommended. You can check out the place for watching the sunset in Figure 3. πππΈ It's a perfect spot to end a day in the park, enjoying the beautiful colors of the setting sun over the desert. ππποΈ 2. ππSaguaro National Park - East π΅Navigate to the Rincon Mountain Visitor Center or 3693 S. Old Spanish Trail. This will take you to the eastern part of the park. ππΊοΈπ Once you arrive, you'll find a different yet equally fascinating side of the Saguaro National Park. ππ΅ποΈ π΅The free Guided program is also recommended here. No reservation is needed. Just gather at the appointed time. We chose the "the Giant Cactus". The ranger led us along an unmarked trail and showed us several huge cacti. He gave a more in-depth explanation of the characteristics of these cacti. ππ£π΅ It was really fascinating to learn so many details about these amazing plants up close. πππ‘ π΅Drive around the Cactus Forest Drive. Along the way, the Desert Ecology Trail (0.3 miles) and the Freeman Homestead Trail (0.9 miles) are two recommended small trails. ππΆββοΈπΊοΈ These trails allow you to explore the park on foot and observe the unique desert ecology and any historical remnants in the area. πππ΅ π΅If you want to hike more, the Mica View Trail plus a short section of the Cactus Forest Trail (1.9 miles) is recommended. You can park at the Mica View Picnic Area or on Broadway Blvd to the north. ππποΈ This combination offers a great opportunity for a more extended hiking experience and to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of the park. ππ£π³ #TucsonTrip #ArizonaAdventure #SaguaroParkHike
