Tokyo Must-Visit Museums: Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum ๐
Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum ๐ซ 1200 yen for adults ๐๏ธ 10:00-18:00 The museum was originally built in 1933 as the residence of the royal family, the Asaka-no-miya Mansion. ๐ธ๐ It was opened as a museum in 1983. It is a collaboration between Japanese and French craftsmen, designers, and artists, and is an ultimate example of Art Deco. ๐ฟ 1๏ธโฃ Henri Rapin (1873-1939) Rapin was responsible for the interior design of seven rooms in the Asaka-no-miya Mansion, including the murals in the main dining room, furniture in various rooms, and the famous "Perfume Tower" in the lobby. His work showcases his versatility as a designer, with the ability to curate and create visual masterpieces. ๐ธ๐ He not only arranged various artworks within the space but also painted and sculpted himself. He was both a curator and a leading artist, capable of creating the main visual elements. ๐จ 2๏ธโฃ Renรฉ Lalique (1860-1945) The glass door at the main entrance was specially designed by Lalique for the Asaka-no-miya Mansion. ๐ธ๐The original design featured a nude figure, which was later changed to a clothed version at the request of the Japanese side. In other rooms of the mansion, you can see more of Lalique's works: the chandelier 'Bucharest' in the main living room and the 'Pineapple and Pomegranate' chandelier in the main dining room. ๐ธ๐The transparency of the glass and the beauty of the shapes are truly captivating. Remember to look up and admire these masterpieces during your visit! ๐ฟ #Tokyo ๐ฟ
