🏰 Torino's Hilltop Church: Basilica of Superga 🌄
First impressions of the Superga Basilica are of Late Baroque-Classical style, built by Victor Amadeus II between 1717 and 1731, located atop the hill of Superga to fulfill the Duke's (later King of Sardinia) vow made during the Battle of Turin. Below the church lie the tombs of most members of the House of Savoy. The dome was completed in 1726, resembling in some parts the dome of St. Peter's Basilica designed by Michelangelo. 👀 Glancing at the dome, you'll see countless rooms behind it, learning that it once served as a refuge. The Basilica of Superga, located on the hill of Superga, is one of the highest hills near Turin. The magnificent and grand cathedral is 51 meters wide, with a dome reaching 75 meters high, situated on a mountain at an altitude of 672 meters, shining like a pearl of Turin, visible from afar within the city. 🎬 Also visited the Ponte Vittorio Emanuele I, often seen in movies, with a Parisian feel on both sides beneath the bridge. Turin is the hometown of the Savoy royal family and the first royal capital, with many Baroque-style buildings, sometimes feeling a bit like the Palace of Versailles! 🏙 Piazza Vittorio Veneto is said to be the largest square in Europe. The Savoy royal family's planning and architecture in Turin are grand, with wide, straight roads, and Piazza has a very open view, contrasting sharply with the winding paths of Bordighera. The trip to Turin was a complete success! #Superga #Baroque #BasilicaOfSuperga #Torino #LoveForComfyLife #ItalianLife
