Travel Diary: Tehran, Iran 🇮🇷
Last summer, I made a brief stop in Tehran on my way back home. While traveling in Iran posed its challenges, the experience was unexpectedly rewarding. Here’s a snapshot of my memories and tips: 🔴 Famous Photo Spot in Tehran I found this location on Xiaohongshu (search "Tehran photo spots"). It was near a metro station where, due to the lack of elevators or ramps, my travel buddy and I helped a local in a wheelchair carry him out of the deep subway exit. The gratitude and praise from bystanders made it a heartwarming moment. ✨ (Exact location forgotten, but the kindness lingered!) 🔴 Azadi Tower The iconic landmark of Tehran! On our first night, we visited with two fellow Chinese travelers we met at the airport. A funny moment: A young police officer approached us, confirmed we were Chinese, and proudly declared twice in broken English, "Taiwan belongs to China!" before shyly retreating to his car. 🇨🇳😂 🔴 Iranian Currency Official unit: Rial (shown as "1000000" on bills). Common usage: Toman (1 Toman = 10 Rial). Most prices are quoted in Toman—always double-check when paying! 🔴 Imam Khomeini International Airport 50-60 km from downtown (the closer airport is for domestic flights). Transport options: Metro (more like a train): Runs every 1.5 hours (!). Tickets require a local SIM to purchase online—thankfully, a kind Iranian stranger helped us (we insisted on paying him back). Taxi: Cheaper if shared. 🔴 Former U.S. Embassy The real-life setting of Argo. The walls are covered in anti-American murals, reminiscent of the Berlin Wall. 🔴 Miscellaneous Missed the metro? I killed time by spotting Chinese characters on train fronts ("China North Rail"). Persian numerals on license plates? Impossible to decipher when hailing cabs or shopping! #Iran #Tehran #TravelDiaries #OffTheBeatenPath
