Troyes Museum of Modern Art in France

The Troyes Museum of Modern Art is one of the two main museums in the city of Troyes, France, the other being the Troyes Museum of Fine Arts. It is located in the former 16th and 17th-century Episcopal Palace of the city. 🖼️This is our second visit to this beautiful city. Troyes is recognized as one of the “most beautiful medieval cities in France.” The medieval houses are almost all in the Renaissance style, which is an extraordinary achievement from an architectural point of view. These houses are mainly built with a wooden frame and then filled with materials such as plaster and baked bricks to insulate and soundproof the buildings. 🏰Half-timbered buildings are quite common in Western Europe, with the Black Forest region in Germany being particularly famous. However, the houses in Troyes are relatively well-preserved due to their age and are becoming increasingly well-known. The City Hall is located in the center of the old town of Troyes and was originally built in the medieval period. The Museum of Modern Art is one of the most important museums in Troyes. Here, you can find over 2000 art pieces from the late 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. The building that houses the museum was formerly the palace of the bishops. Inside, you can admire artworks by artists such as Degas, Matisse, and Picasso. 🎨Across the upstream canal of the Seine is the city’s most outstanding museum, the Museum of Modern Art (Musée d’Art Moderne), located in the ancient bishop’s palace, near the cathedral on Place Saint-Pierre.
