UK Hiking Guide 🧭 Bamford Reservoir: The Peak District’s Hidden Gem!
Getting There : Canley-Birmingham New Street-Sheffield-Bamford involves transfers at Birmingham and Sheffield stations, taking a total of 2h47min. 🌳First, walk from Bamford station to the town center, about a 20-minute stroll. There are two options for the uphill route: a steep but shorter path, and a longer, more gradual route. Both eventually lead to New Road, where you just keep walking forward. We chose the longer route and navigated to Bamford Edge, even extending our walk to see the reservoir and Yorkshire Bridge (which Google says is a historic site, though it wasn’t obvious—but the stream was quite picturesque). 🌳The highlight of the Peak District is definitely the reservoir. Whether viewed from above or at eye level, it’s serene and deep blue. When visiting the edge, be cautious; although the background makes it look like a cliff, the drop is only about 3-4 meters, but it’s still risky. 🌳Both routes eventually converge at a single point (see photo 5), where you just keep climbing. The descent can be a bit tricky due to loose gravel, so be careful. On the way back, we took the steep path (see photo 9); if you’re worried about knee strain, stick to the gentle route both ways. ⚠️ There were many small black bugs on the mountain that I couldn’t identify. When resting, be mindful of them; I even had to manually remove one from my clothing. I suspect it was because my clothing was too bright. #hikingaroundtheworld #naturehike #easyhikingtrails #outdoorhiking #peakdistrict
