When I visited in January, the scenery was particularly magical. A recent snowfall had transformed the landscape into a winter wonderland, with pristine white snow blanketing the surroundings. We couldn’t resist the opportunity to have a fun and spontaneous snowball fight, which added a playful touch to the trip. The cold air, combined with the beauty of the snow-covered environment, made the experience truly unforgettable.
If you’re up for a bit of climbing, make sure to visit the lake. The hike may require some effort, but the reward is worth it. From the top, you’ll be greeted with breathtaking views of the serene lake and the surrounding natural beauty. The climb itself adds to the adventure, and reaching the summit feels like an accomplishment. It’s a perfect spot for photography or simply taking in the tranquility of the landscape.
This destination is highly recommended throughout the year, as each season offers its own charm. From the vibrant colors of spring and summer to the crisp, clear air of autumn and the snow-covered beauty of winter, there’s always something to enjoy. Whether you’re traveling alone, with friends, or with family, this place promises an enriching and memorable experience. It’s a destination that will leave you wanting to return...
Read moreIt’s beautiful up here, with views over to Stanage Edge, Bamford, and the famous view over Ladybower Reservoir. It’s definitely worth a visit if you are in the area
But let’s give you the low down. The literal low down. If you don’t like steep paths, Don’t walk up the Clough from Bamford like I did. It is very steep, and whilst the views at the top are breathtaking, your breath will also have been taken away from the wander up!
Once on the Edge, there are many paths not listed on the OS map app. I walked to the peak just above the edge, and there is a very close direct to the edge path.
Once you’re up there, the path is relatively easy. It’s exposed so will be a little colder than you think (I went in early september), but the paths underfoot are firm, although a few stones may roll about under your foot
The path down to the north, towards Ladybower Inn is one I missed, but it must be there, as I met several people coming towards me from that direction. There are also other paths heading down towards the reservoir, but these are single person tracks, that in wet weather you’d get soaked in, unlike the wider tracks up top
Whilst up here, I saw Stonechats, Grouse, and other birds.
Along the more popular parts, you’ll spend maybe a hour or two in the company of many, but the wilder part to the north is much more lonely.
From Bamford Edge, I made it to Cutthroat Bridge, back along to Ladybower Inn, north to Derwent Dam, and back down the western edge of the water and on to Bamford in a day (whilst taking lots of photos, so can be done quicker), if you want an idea of how far...
Read moreThe most amazing experience after coming to UK. After you hike for 10km you realise the value of the country side of peak district. On a bright sunny day the reservoir looks as blue as an ocean and the amazing lowlands and green valleys just makes the moment perfect. You can sit there and look at the Lady bower reservoir for hours. There are two ways to reach the place, one is when u follow every other person through the road that goes away from the reservoir and passing through the Hope valley (which is a longer one). There are short cut routes through the woods which you need to find, it is a bit steep but pretty amazing. The woods look beautiful when the sun shines above the canopy and peeks through the gap. You can visit this place from Manchester as well as Sheffield, it is almost the midway and about half...
