Ultimate Kathmandu Shopping Guide
I started shopping spree on Day 1 in Kathmandu – Thamel Street is simply irresistible! 🛍️ ⚠️ First rule: Never exchange money in Thamel! The rates are worse than at the airport. 😠 For better rates, ask at Chinese-run shops if they offer exchange services. Thamel Street is a pedestrian zone catering entirely to tourists. Super commercialized but incredibly fun! You'll find: • Felt toys • Handicrafts 🛒 Bargaining tip: Start by offering half the quoted price. Most felt toys cost 10-20 RMB – if you like one, just grab it! 🏆 Recommended Stores: ✅ Fair Circle A social enterprise supporting local women (chain store across Nepal). Their handicrafts have superior quality (but higher fixed prices). Bought the P7 handmade bag for ~100 RMB. Other bags range from tens to ~200 RMB. ✅ Japhoo Similar to Fair Circle but less "girly" in style. ✅ Merino Industry Quirky and fascinating – worth a quick browse! ✅ Banjara Most exotic (and expensive!) bag store. Prices ~500-600 RMB but absolutely stunning craftsmanship. ✅ Friendly Export Hidden gem in Thamel (easy to miss!). Their felt toys are the most exquisite I've found – slightly pricier but worth it. 📸 Last photo shows my haul! 💡 Travel tip: Don't rush to book buses/flights online. Countless travel agencies in Kathmandu sell tickets for: • City transfers • Treks • Paragliding Shop around for the best deals! #Kathmandu #KathmanduShopping #Nepal #NepalSouvenirs
