Ultra-ornate floral-themed gnocchi
My first beautiful meal in Florence cured my aversion to carbohydrates. I indulged in risotto, gnocchi, and lasagna here. I visited the original La Buchetta, and I really liked their elaborate and artistic plating. It seems that walk-ins might not be possible, so it’s best to call ahead to check. I ordered the "Angels and Demons" gnocchi, which probably refers to the combination of creamy cheese sauce and spicy tomato sauce. 👼🏻 The cheese sauce is based on Stracciatella, a stringy cheese, so it’s very stretchy and rich. However, the gnocchi themselves are quite mild, even with a hint of sweetness, balancing out the overall flavor. 👹 The spiciness and acidity of the tomato sauce provide occasional zings to the taste buds, offering a break from the heavy cheese. The crispy element is fried pork cheek, which is very crunchy but a bit greasy. Maybe the pork here has a distinct flavor that needs to be masked with strong sauces. Surprisingly, the lemon zest is perceptible among all these rich flavors. 💐 The decorative flower petals are edible, and I unconsciously ate them all. The pre-meal bread here includes a particularly oily yet very palatable type, sprinkled with salt grains and with a crispy crust, similar to salted bread. It’s sliced flat and served with balsamic vinegar, which complements it well. At €22 for such a large portion, it’s almost shareable. This dish has a touch of innovation in the Tuscany style. It’s conveniently located near the Uffizi Gallery. After the meal, I took advantage of a €1 special open ticket and had a very cost-effective evening. #ItalyTravel #Florence #Gnocchi #FoodieAdventures
