Unbelievable! This is actually in Africa
What is Africa like in people's minds? I've already traveled to 16 countries in Africa. I started from North Africa, then moved to East Africa and went south (but haven't been to South Africa yet), and now I'm heading west. These days, I still can't help but exclaim: Windhoek is just too un-African! It's so "white" and modern! Swakopmund feels even more European! Apart from the hot and dry weather and not-so-low prices (but still reasonable), the entire city is clean, modern, and convenient. Today is Day 190 of my solo trip, and I'm in the last country of this leg—Namibia. I just bought a night bus ticket to Angola 🇦🇴. A quick calculation: including the visa fee of $60, my total expenses for 12 days came to 4,360 yuan. Here's a travel guide for Windhoek: 💰 Currency Exchange: Yangzi Chinese Restaurant on P16. The Shanghai-born owner is so kind. She exchanged money at a rate of 2.6 and even treated me to fried noodles and a drink. Her husband offers real-time exchange rates. The food here is delicious, and there's also a great Thai restaurant across the street! ☎️ SIM Card Recommendation: MTC has great signal. Check out the specific plans on P17, and remember to bring your passport photo! 🚖 Taxi: Yango Shared taxis are available everywhere for 13N within the city, and 26N for cross-district rides. 📷 Tourist Attractions: Free admission Landmark: The Evangelical Lutheran Church (P2). For a great aerial view, take the elevator to the third floor of the Independence Museum across the street. There's also a restaurant with a terrifying balcony, but it's a nice spot to watch the sunset! 🛒 Shopping Areas: 1️⃣ Wernhil City Center 2️⃣ The Grove Mall is a bit farther out, but I visited it on my way back from the Welwitschia Plains. 🍴 Restaurant Recommendations: 1️⃣ Roof of Africa: A local friend took me here, and the atmosphere is great! 2️⃣ Leo's at the Castle: One of the three castles, now a hotel called Heinitzburg. It's a great spot to watch the sunset, but dinner reservations are required. ☕️ Coffee Chain: Slowtown ❤️ P5 is a must-visit for its beautiful stamps! 🏠 Kate’s Nest Guest House: Women's dormitory for 250N (P6). Clean, quiet, with good Wi-Fi and cooking facilities. The downside is its remote location, so I had to take a shared taxi whenever I went out. After finishing this post, I'm heading to the bus station to continue my journey to Angola, my 17th African country! In our Africa travel group, people were discussing how there's no traffic or motivation to write about Africa. I said, "What if it's because of passion?" Please cherish my occasional bursts of enthusiasm to share! I'll write about my solo public transport trip from the capital to the Welwitschia Plains, which cost only 246 yuan, when I have time. I'm tired of repeating the same things. I want to write something truly useful for those who need it! (Even though I know it's a small audience.)
