Updating Winter Memories in the Arctic ❄️
I visited Tromsø, Lofoten, Kiruna, and Narvik in winters two years ago and last year—so I can share some Northern Europe travel insights! Tromsø, Norway 🇳🇴 As the largest city above the Arctic Circle, it’s relatively easy to get around: more flights from other European cities, public buses in the city, and full infrastructure. The scenery is stunning (think fjords!), and there are tons of activities—dog sledding, whale watching (highly recommended, though it depends a lot on weather and luck 🐋). If you’re not up for a deep dive, this is your top pick. Lofoten, Norway 🇳🇴 The landscape here is breathtaking—I’d call it the most beautiful place I’ve ever been! But: Transportation is a hassle; you need a rental car. Few restaurants and supermarkets, with basic facilities—so the travel experience is less smooth. Most importantly, the weather is super unpredictable: heavy snow, rain, and strong winds in winter. It’s only scenic when the sky is clear. Great for nature lovers. If you just want fjords and auroras, Tromsø is enough. That said, Lofoten is lovely in summer—better weather, perfect for hikers ⛰️. Kiruna, Sweden 🇸🇪 Colder than Norway, but with higher aurora sighting chances. Prices are lower than in Norway, and the food is way better! No fjords here, but it has almost all winter activities except whale watching—plus the iconic ICEHOTEL and underground mine tours ❄️. Narvik, Norway 🇳🇴 Good as a stop for in-depth travel, but with fewer activities (the fjord-side ski resort is nice though ⛷️). Facilities are decent. If you’re into Norway’s WWII history, check out the War Museum—but it’s not recommended as a standalone destination. The Faroe Islands are still on my bucket list—stay tuned for future updates! #WinterTravelPlan#EverySecondWorthRecording
