Utah|A Super Anime-Themed Ramen Shop 🍜

Planned to try the new chashu spot but it was closed, so went to a ramen shop recommended in a group chat instead. The moment I walked in — my inner otaku heart melted! Filled with anime figures and shelves of Japanese snacks. They emphasize that everything is made in-house — finally that handmade trend has reached Utah! Didn’t try the handmade gyoza, but the handmade noodles were way better than Mensho’s — went to Mensho twice and both times the noodles tasted undercooked. 🍜 Signature Black Garlic Oil Ramen (UT Black) Basic version uses pork shoulder loin chashu, but you can pay extra to replace or add pork belly chashu. First bite was good — rich soy flavor, tender and oily — but after a while it felt too heavy. The broth was also very garlicky and oily — got so rich I couldn’t finish the meat or noodles. Maybe I’m getting older and prefer lighter flavors, but younger folks might find it super satisfying! My friend mentioned the pork belly chashu seemed house-made rather than pre-made, because the edges were slightly dried out and a bit tough. Pre-made items often have moisture retainers to keep them tender — a little hack for spotting pre-made dishes! 🍗 Japanese Fried Chicken Two types: UT Pepper Chicken and Chicken Karaage.❤️😁 The former had a sweet black pepper flavor — tender and juicy — highly recommended! The latter was just regular karaage. 📌 Fun fact: In the Michelin guide system, besides starred restaurants, there are two other tiers:😍 Bib Gourmand — Good quality, good value restaurants. Michelin Plate — Recognized for “quality ingredients, skillful preparation, and delicious flavor.” #Utah #SaltLakeCity #RestaurantRecommendation #WinterJapaneseFood #FoodReviewObserver
