The California College of the Arts is a historic art and design school founded in Berkeley over 100 years ago . In the 1990s, it opened a second campus in San Francisco, which merged with the Oakland campus a few years ago. Now, due to declining enrollment, the college has announced it will be closing its doors after the 2026-2027 academic year. Now, Vanderbilt University , based in Tennessee, has purchased the campus to establish a presence in San Francisco.
