Vintage British Afternoon Tea in Niagara Falls Town

Finally got to try the historic afternoon tea experience in **Niagara-on-the-Lake**! The restaurant is located inside the charming **Prince of Wales Hotel** on the main street—the fanciest heritage hotel in town. **The Drawing Room**, on the left side of the lobby, is dedicated to afternoon tea (open from 11 AM to 5 PM). Since we went on a boat tour to see the falls first, we didn’t make a reservation. Luckily, we walked in around **3 PM on a weekday** and got seated at a **window-side table for three** with a lovely view of the quaint town streets. Of course, we also became the *unintentional backdrop* for many tourists’ photos lol~ 📸 We went for the basic **"Traditional Afternoon Tea" ($55 per person)**—the pricier options just add alcohol or cheese. Not sure if it was because we didn’t reserve, but service was *painfully slow* compared to the reserved tables nearby. We waited so long we almost turned into antiques ourselves! ⏳ The **tea menu** has three categories: **black tea, herbal tea, and green tea**. We ordered one of each: - **Bold Breakfast (Black Tea)**: Classic, robust flavor—nothing extraordinary but reliable. - **Ginger Twist (Herbal Tea)**: My friend said the ginger was mild (I skipped it—ginger is a no for me 🙅‍♀️). - **Peaches & Cream (Green Tea)**: A fresh, peachy aroma that filled the air as soon as we poured it—sweet and creamy! 🍑 The **scones** were **HUGE** (one per person), but kinda dense with average butter flavor. The spreads were meh—clotted cream would’ve been better than plain butter. The jam was basic, and the ginger-infused sour cream? **Hard pass.** The **sandwiches** were a mixed bag: - **Cucumber Sandwich**: Dry bread, barely any spread, and **thick cucumber slices**—shocking! 😱 - **Smoked Salmon**: Actually good—plump, fresh fish. - **Egg Salad Croissant**: Tasty! - **Savory Tart (Chickpea & Tomato Relish)**: Surprisingly flavorful with candied orange peel—nice touch! The **top-tier desserts** looked plain but packed delicious surprises: - **Macarons**: The lemon one was perfectly balanced—not too sweet! 🍋 - **Cupcake**: Toasted coconut flakes added texture, and the frosting was *divine*. - **Blueberry Butter Tart**: Simple but excellent—the crumble + blueberry jam combo was *chef’s kiss* 👌. - **Butter Cookie**: Loved the crunchy sugar crystals on top! Overall, the experience was lovely—the ambiance was elegant, and the server was politely attentive. One weird note: The teapots came **pre-brewed** (no loose leaves), so not sure if refills were possible. Also… the **cutlery was visibly worn** (so many scratches 😬). 💟 **The Drawing Room** #TorontoFood #TorontoAfternoonTea #NiagaraOnTheLake #BritishTea #VintageVibes #TeaTime #TravelEats #LuxuryDining #HistoricHotels
