Visiting the Alberta Legislature Building in Edmonton ๐๐๐
๐ณThe Alberta Legislature Building, constructed in 1911, stands on the former site of "Fort Edmonton. " It's an elegant building in the Beaux-Arts architectural style, located by the North Saskatchewan River and surrounded by beautiful parks ๐. The fountain in the central rotunda was built to commemorate the first official visit of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. The regimental flags encircling the central rotunda represent Alberta units that participated in various wars .๐ฐ On the northwest side of the central rotunda, there's a statue of Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, after whom the province of Alberta is named ๐ธ๐. Above the main entrance of the legislative chamber on the third floor hangs the Alberta coat of arms, carved from mahogany.๐ฉโ๐ผ Portraits of past premiers and lieutenant - governors of Alberta are displayed in the corridors on the third floor ๐ผ๏ธ๐. On the north side of the fifth floor of the legislature building, there's a spot known as the "Whispering Wall" or "Magic Spot" due to its peculiar acoustic phenomenon. After the sound of the fountain's water in the first - floor central rotunda is reflected off the grand staircase and the dome, it seems to come from right above the listener's head ๐ง๐ฎ. At the top of the fifth - floor dome, there are five palm trees. The tree species were donated by the California State Legislature in 1932 ๐ด๐. The legislature building is open to the public for free, but visitors need to make an appointment. ๐ณStaff members will lead groups of visitors in and provide a guided tour. The tour covers topics such as the role and organizational structure of the government, parliamentary ceremonies, architectural features, and the political history of Alberta. The visit lasts for one hour โฐ๐. #Edmonton #AlbertaLegislatureBuilding #LifeinCanada
