Volendam: The North Sea Fishing Village Near Amsterdam ๐ฃ๐
After spending 1.5 days exploring Amsterdam city and the windmill village, I decided to use my extra day to visit either Zaanse Schans or Volendam. Unfortunately, I ran into a rainy day โ๏ธโJune in the Netherlands is definitely cold and gloomy. So I opted for the closer destination! ๐ Transportation ๐ Volendam includes three small towns: Edam, Volendam, and Marken. From Edam to Volendam: It's 3 km apart, which can be walked ๐ถ or taken by bus ๐. From Volendam to Marken: You can take a boat ๐ข (just check the schedule) or a bus ๐. From the Train Station: You can take a bus from Noord station to reach Edam, or from Amsterdam Centraal station or Noord station to get to Volendam. โ ๏ธ Note: When taking the bus to the North Sea fishing village, you can pay with an OV chip card or credit card ๐ณ, but the GVB day pass (9๐ถ/day) is not accepted. ๐ Attractions ๐ There's no specific destination in the villageโjust wander around! Youโll find traditional Dutch green houses, and the villagers are mostly native Dutch elders. I recommend the travel route: Edam ๐ Volendam ๐ Marken. ๐ Shopping ๐๏ธ On Saturdays, thereโs a market in Volendam's central square, where you can find an AH supermarket, brunch cafes, and some brand shops nearby. Along the coastal pier, there are several souvenir shops selling fridge magnets, eco-bags, and Miffy itemsโcheaper than in Amsterdam! ๐ฐ๐ฐ ๐ Restaurants ๐ด ๐ Le Lunch: The most popular Dutch seafood restaurant in Volendam, located right at the coastal pier. Their signature lekkerbek fish and chips is a must-try, although the seafood soup with curry shrimp flavor is a bit strange. #YouthIsASummerDream #Europe #Netherlands #AmsterdamTravel #Volendam #Amsterdam
