Volendam: The North Sea Fishing Village Near Amsterdam π£π
After spending 1.5 days exploring Amsterdam city and the windmill village, I decided to use my extra day to visit either Zaanse Schans or Volendam. Unfortunately, I ran into a rainy day βοΈβJune in the Netherlands is definitely cold and gloomy. So I opted for the closer destination! π Transportation π Volendam includes three small towns: Edam, Volendam, and Marken. From Edam to Volendam: It's 3 km apart, which can be walked πΆ or taken by bus π. From Volendam to Marken: You can take a boat π’ (just check the schedule) or a bus π. From the Train Station: You can take a bus from Noord station to reach Edam, or from Amsterdam Centraal station or Noord station to get to Volendam. β οΈ Note: When taking the bus to the North Sea fishing village, you can pay with an OV chip card or credit card π³, but the GVB day pass (9πΆ/day) is not accepted. π Attractions π There's no specific destination in the villageβjust wander around! Youβll find traditional Dutch green houses, and the villagers are mostly native Dutch elders. I recommend the travel route: Edam π Volendam π Marken. π Shopping ποΈ On Saturdays, thereβs a market in Volendam's central square, where you can find an AH supermarket, brunch cafes, and some brand shops nearby. Along the coastal pier, there are several souvenir shops selling fridge magnets, eco-bags, and Miffy itemsβcheaper than in Amsterdam! π°π° π Restaurants π΄ π Le Lunch: The most popular Dutch seafood restaurant in Volendam, located right at the coastal pier. Their signature lekkerbek fish and chips is a must-try, although the seafood soup with curry shrimp flavor is a bit strange. #YouthIsASummerDream #Europe #Netherlands #AmsterdamTravel #Volendam #Amsterdam
