๐ถ Walked 30,000 Steps! All for Eating in New Orleans
The second round of my New Orleans food guide is here! Sharing my hot restaurant picks โ great for first-timers looking to eat well without regrets. Once you leave NOLA, it's hard to find Cajun/Creole flavors like this (DC barely has any!) โ so savor every bite while you can! ๐โจ ๐ Cochon | Recommended by Anthony Bourdain Super popular spot. Ordered the signature cochon and catfish courtbouillon. Free bread at every table, plus an extra appetizer for sitting at the kitchen bar ๐ด. Mains were a bit salty, but the flavors were rich โ the catfish is fried then stewed, perfect with rice! A bit far from the French Quarter, but worth the trip if you plan ahead ๐. ๐ฆ Deanieโs | Lively Hands-on Seafood Boil Highly recommend this one! Crawfish were fresh and full of roe. The potatoes, mushrooms, and smoked sausage soaked up all the spices! BBQ Shrimp came swimming in butter and spices โ the sauce was so thick and amazing with bread. I even ordered a bowl of rice to mix it in โ heavenly! ๐๐ฆ ๐ฅช Motherโs | Local Favorite Diner Tried the grilled shrimp poโboy โ shrimp were plump and flavorful, though the bread was a bit tough. The menu is huge: combos, poโboys, and more. Order at the counter, cafeteria-style ๐ฝ๏ธ. ๐๏ธ Napoleon House | Moody, Historic 200-Year-Old Spot Only snapped a pic of the red beans and rice โ slow-cooked kidney beans with smoked sausage over rice, so comforting! Their jambalaya is also famous โ savory and perfect for the Chinese palate ๐. Dark, vintage decor + a lush courtyard make it super photogenic! ๐ธ ๐ฟ Mollyโs Rise and Shine | Hipster Brunch Spot Ordered carrot yogurt and chicken biscuit. The yogurt was so refreshing โ a perfect cleanse after all that heavy food! The biscuit was decent but a bit heavy. Mostly locals here, very few tourists. Close to Magazine Street โ great for shopping after (anyone else love Trashy Diva for vintage-style clothes? ๐๐). #GlobalFoodie #StudyAbroadEats #InternationalFlavors #NewOrleansFood #EatLikeALocal #NOLA
