Watching Sunsets at UMich 🌇✨

Hemingway wasn’t wrong—Michigan has one of the most beautiful skies in the world, especially at sunset! 😍 Here are some of my favorite spots around Ann Arbor to catch those golden hours. Don’t forget your camera! 📸 🛶 Gallup Park Riverside Picnic ⏰ Ideal time: 1 hour before sunset Rent a canoe from Argo Canoe Livery and paddle gently down the Huron River. As the sun dips, the water turns into a shimmering golden path 🏞️. I love stopping near the reeds where the maple trees on the opposite bank glow like caramel. Perfect for a peaceful evening picnic! 🌿 Nichols Arboretum’s Hidden Trail ⏰ Ideal time: During blue hour, just after sunset Whether it’s spring with its dreamy peonies or fall when the ginkgo trees form a golden archway, the Arb is pure magic 🍂. Climb up to the overlook—you’ll see the UMich bell tower and the Ann Arbor skyline peeking through the mist. It’s also a killer spot for star trail photography! 🌌 🏙️ Rooftop Views from a Downtown Parking Garage ⏰ Ideal time: 15 minutes after sunset A hidden gem known mostly by locals! The top floor of this 7-story parking structure offers a 360-degree view of the city 🌆. Face west to watch the sun melt into the cornfields, and turn east to see the lights of the university twinkle to life. So romantic! 💫 🦌 Barton Nature Area — Wetland Wonder 📍 Navigate to: Barton Dam Overlook ⏰ Ideal time: On cloudy or partly cloudy days This preserved wetland comes alive at dusk with birds and occasional deer stopping for a drink 🦌. Wear waterproof boots and wander the boardwalks—it feels like a secret world. The reflective water and soft evening light make every shot look like a painting. Even after that crazy thunderstorm we had last week, the sun came out and gave us one of the most breathtaking sunsets ever! 🌦️☀️ So grab your friends, your camera, and go make some golden-hour memories.
