📚The Helsinki Central Library, also known as the Oodi Library, is a municipal library building located in the heart of Helsinki, Finland. The Finnish architectural firm ALA Architects won an international design competition for the project. The City Council of Helsinki approved the design plan in January 2015, and construction began in the same year. The library officially opened its doors on December 5, 2018. 📚In a public naming competition, "Oodi," which means "song" or "hymn," was chosen as the name for the building. The name has two official spellings: Helsingin keskustakirjasto Oodi – Helsingfors centrumbibliotek Ode – Helsinki Central Library Oodi Kirjasto Oodi, Helsinki – Biblioteket Ode, Helsingfors – Library Oodi, Helsinki 📚The building is divided into three levels, each with a different purpose. The first floor provides a meeting place for citizens and includes a cinema, exhibition hall, and café. The second floor is designed for work and hobby activities. The third floor is a traditional library with a collection of books and a youth activity room. The library will house 140,000 volumes.
