What I Ate During My 5-Day Trip to Portugal

Lisbon On the first day, I went straight to UMA for seafood rice. I was starving, so I ordered a seafood rice stew for two and a plate of seafood fried rice. Honestly, the famous seafood rice was just okay—way too salty!! All I remember is how overpowering the saltiness was. The seafood fried rice was actually tastier in comparison. 🍩 Amorino (Gelato Flowers) – They have locations in the UK too, but I never tried it before. While walking along Rua Augusta, I stopped by and got one. The best part? No limit on flavors—you can choose as many as you want! 🍗 Churrasqueira da Tapada (Grandpa’s Grilled Chicken) – Originally planned to go to another grilled chicken spot but ended up here by accident. This tiny, unassuming place has no proper signage and barely fits three people inside. No seating either—picture us standing outside, ripping into a whole chicken with our hands. The spicy grilled chicken was insanely good! The grandpa running it doesn’t speak English, so we used a translator to order. đŸ„§ PastĂ©is de BelĂ©m (The Original Egg Tarts) – Legit delicious, as expected from Portugal’s iconic pastry. The crust is thick and flaky, while the custard is creamy and rich—definitely unique! Porto đŸČ Huang Shang Huang Hotpot – A copper-pot hotpot, which was interesting, but the ingredients and flavors were just average. Not worth recommending. 🍹 Gelataria Portuense (Ice Cream) – Huge portions, tons of flavors, and super friendly staff who let you sample before ordering. I got pistachio, vanilla chocolate, strawberry cheesecake, and orange sorbet. The strawberry cheesecake was the best, and pistachio was great too! 🐟 Casa Portuguesa do Pastel de Bacalhau (Codfish Cakes) – A Porto specialty made with potato, egg, codfish, onion, and parsley, fried and stuffed with cheese. Personally, I wasn’t a fan, but the interior is gorgeous—perfect for photos! Braga đŸœïž Clave Sol (Vila do Conde) – Tried Francesinha ("Little Frenchie"), Porto’s famous sandwich with steak, ham, egg, and melted cheese over toast. Super hearty and filling! Their fresh pineapple juice was unbelievably good—perfectly sweet and refreshing. 🍣 HOKO (Upscale Japanese) – High-end sushi spot in Braga with fresh ingredients and a classy vibe. #GlobalFoodieChallenge #PortugueseCuisine #PortugalTravel #FoodDiaries
