What to Eat After Work in Toronto? Omai 🍶
Downtown Toronto has *so* many little Japanese spots—I randomly scrolled and picked Omai near UofT, which just reopened! First visit, so I went for their $95 pp tasting menu : - Velley Pearl Oysters Straight up... not good. 😬 Salty with a slight fishiness—probably the least enjoyable oysters I’ve had? Zero sweetness. Rough start. - Truffle Temaki *This* was delicious! 🍣 The tuna was high quality, perfectly seasoned, and the truffle didn’t overpower (rare!). - Uni Toast BEST DISH OF THE NIGHT goes to the sea urchin ! 🏆 Recently had the sweetest, fresest, *biggest* uni ever~ The toast underneath was fried and dyed with squid ink—so good I wanted seconds. - Tataki Korean-inspired Japanese flavors are always interesting! 🔥 The Sichuan-citrus soy sauce was *amazing*, and the fish sat on sweet pear slices with scallions—perfect with drinks. - Scallop Kuromai Scallop with black rice, almost like a risotto ! The rice had a nice chew and sweetness, and the seared scallop was fragrant. 👍 - Wagyu Flatiron Wagyu with pumpkin purée and Korean sauce —cooked *perfectly* (better than some steakhouses?!). The sauce balanced everything without being heavy. - Monaka Approved by me, the Ice Cream Connoisseur. 🍨 The hojicha ice cream was aromatic and refreshing, paired with crispy buckwheat wafers. Might go back *just* for this dessert, hehe. Overall? Everything *except* the oysters was great! The tasting menu left me 80% full (went in hungry). Next time, I’ll probably order à la carte hand rolls. They also have a great drink selection —perfect for casual drinks with friends. BTW , I *love* this "What to Eat After Work" series—nothing heals a long day like a good meal ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈ෆ #TorontoLife #Toronto #TorontoEats #WhatToEatToday #Foodie #TorontoDining #AfterWorkMeals #TorontoFoodSpots #JapaneseFood #DowntownTO
