What to Eat in Salt Lake City – Chapter 1 🍽️
Moved from Seattle to SLC this January, and with last summer’s internship included, I’ve spent about 3–4 months here so far. My hobby? Eating out! 😂 So I’ve been on the hunt for decent spots in SLC. 1️⃣ Ozora Izakaya Japanese Bar & Tapas A yakitori spot—grilled skewers were good, and the nigiri sampler was passable. But the pacing was off (they finished one table’s orders before starting another’s—I was hangry! 😤). Service was polite though—typical Japanese hospitality. 2️⃣ Red Maple Heard about this from a friend. Aunties push carts around asking, “Want this? Want that?”—just like in Hong Kong! Food tasted fresh, not like frozen reheated stuff. My favorite was actually the sweet soy milk 🤣 3️⃣ Itto Sushi Went to the downtown location without an omakase reservation. Ordered nigiri—decent. Uni was a bit fishy but acceptable. Biggest plus: affordable & edible. 4️⃣ Umi Shabu Shabu AYCE hotpot with decent meat quality. For ~$30–40 per person, can’t complain! 5️⃣ Pretty Bird Spicy fried chicken—really tasty! The heat is unique, served with pickles and red cabbage slaw. My go-to when I’m craving junk food 🍗🔥 6️⃣ Xing Fu Tang Where my mom goes when she wants bubble tea. She loves the brown sugar pearls—soft and chewy. I just like that it’s in my favorite block 😆 7️⃣ Dolcetti Gelato A little gelato hotspot. Coconut and pistachio were fine, nothing mind-blowing. Also in that same block I love—so convenient LOL. #SaltLakeCity #SLCTravel #SLCEats #FoodReview #SLCFoodie #Izakaya #DimSum #Hotpot
