🍁Just an hour's drive from VA, this storybook town nestled at the convergence of three states welcomed us with its most glorious autumn dress. As part of the National Historical Park, entry is covered by the National Park Pass – though during the recent government shutdown, the gates stood open for all, making our visit unexpectedly free (a nice bonus, though the usual $20 fee is already a steal! 😆). 🚗 Parking & Shuttle Tips Town parking is extremely limited, especially on autumn weekends We parked at the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Visitor Center (see photo) Shuttle buses run frequently (every 5-7 minutes) though weekend lines can be long – we waited about 30 minutes Critical note: Check last shuttle times! Current seasonal schedule ends at 7PM – missing it means a cold, strenuous walk back 🥾 Maryland Heights Trail Review Difficulty: Moderate-strenuous with sustained inclines The payoff: That final lookout view will literally take your breath away Route reality: It's an out-and-back trail (not a loop) – prepare mentally for the return journey Timing: 2 hours hiking + 30 minutes at overlook = perfect half-day adventure The steepest section near the summit had me "toe-braking" my way up 😂, but watching the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers embrace beneath a crimson-and-gold canopy made every burning quad worth it. 🍦 Creamy Creations – Worth the Hype!
