Where to Go for Christmas? | Hoover Dam & Emerald Cave Kayaking Trip

Our starting point was Willow Beach in Black Canyon, just a 20-minute drive from Hoover Dam. Winter temperatures are mild, but the water isn’t as vividly green. Summer brings intense heat, but the water turns a stunning emerald color—truly beautiful! 🌞💦 👕 What to wear: A T-shirt + cardigan, or just a hoodie is fine. Pants are up to you. 👟 You can take off your shoes and store them in the kayak’s waterproof compartment—so wear whatever’s comfortable! 🧴 Don’t forget sunscreen—the round trip takes about 2.5 hours. We booked our tour with Ryan from Evolution Expedition Kayak—he was super friendly, knowledgeable, and shared lots of interesting facts about the area’s history and ecology. He even provided water and snacks! 🥨💧 He mentioned that during peak season, he guides over 100 people a day, but during our visit, there were only 8 people in the group. It was peaceful, and we passed a few other tours returning—overall, a calm and enjoyable experience! 😌 The main attraction promoted online—Emerald Cave—is actually more of a small cove. If you’re coming just for that, you might be a bit disappointed. But if you love kayaking and scenic views along the way, it’s totally worth it! 🏞️ 📵 Heads up: There’s no cell signal in this area, so agree on a meeting spot with your guide in advance. Also, be aware of the time zone difference between Arizona and other regions! After kayaking, drive over to Hoover Dam—it looks especially majestic at sunset. A powerful reminder of how small we are in the face of human engineering. 🌅🧍♂️🏗️ Have you been kayaking at Emerald Cave or visited Hoover Dam?
