With the Right Mindset, UA Can Be Just Like the Centre Pompidou! ππ§
Every time I pass through the University of Alberta Hospital, the exposed ventilation ducts, water pipes, and steel framework in its massive atrium instantly transport me back to the Centre Pompidou. π₯π¨π οΈ Today, as I walked by the parking garage next to the GSB (Graduate Studies Building), I noticed that the ventilation ducts there looked exactly like those on the rooftop of the Centre Pompidou! π€£ππ¨ If these exposed pipes were painted in vibrant colors according to their functions, one might really start to wonder if some of UA's buildings are secretly works by Renzo Piano, hidden deep in the interior of North America. In Edmonton, where architecture can sometimes feel a bit dull, such designs are truly eye-catching and refreshing. πποΈ Later, I'd like to share a quote from Francis Ponge that I've always remembered from the second-floor platform of the Centre Pompidou: "In the heart of Paris, a heart: a muscle, a pump that sucks and blows, with uninterrupted beatsβ¦ this is what the Beaubourg building was meant to be, would be, will be, already is. Thus, less a monument than, if I must coin this word: a moviment." β€οΈποΈπ« #Piano'sSecretBaseInNorthAmerica #HighTechArchitecture #CentrePompidou ποΈπ
