XR Costume Performance at the Horniman Museum
Last Thursday, I saw the XR costume-based performance at the Horniman Museum, and I was truly amazed! 🎭 This project is an immersive experience that combines VR, dance, and costumes. The story is inspired by Yoruba mythology and tells the tale of the forces of nature’s destruction and restoration. As an audience member, you’ll meet mysterious spirit characters in a virtual forest and explore how these ancestral transformation stories have been passed down through time and remain relevant today.🌳✨ As a Chinese person, who is often seen as an "other," I thought there might be a cultural gap when engaging with African culture. But there wasn’t any! 🌍✨ Through costumes, music, and movement, the entire world feels connected, like stepping into a living myth. Emotions and cultures are wrapped into this space, and there’s no sense of disconnection – only deep resonance. This experience reminded me once again that costumes are not just something to wear; they can be a bridge between cultures, a way to communicate across time and space.
