You Can Travel For Just $1 On The LIRR & Metro-North Every Saturday This Summer

If you’ve added any [summer](https://secretnyc.co/things-to-do-in-nyc-summer-2025/) vacations to your calendar–and if you haven’t, we certainly have a few [ideas](https://secretnyc.co/escapes/)–you’ll be delighted to know that if those plans involve hopping on the train, you can do so at an incredibly low price as the **Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad Summer Saturday discount program** has just dropped! Just in time for summer vacation, the MTA has officially brought back its Summer Weekend discount program, which allows monthly ticket holders to **travel anywhere the trains go on the [weekend](https://secretnyc.co/what-to-do-this-weekend-nyc/) for the incredibly low price of $1.** Even more, you won’t have to make the journey alone (unless, of course, you want to!)–the discount applies to guests as well! During the program, both railroads will honor all monthly tickets for travel to and from all stations within the LIRR or Metro-North, regardless of what stations are printed on the ticket. The **discount applies to Saturday travel, from July 5th through August 30th,** and each monthly ticket holder can bring up to two additional travelers for only $1 per person each way. The $1 tickets can be **purchased via the TrainTime app under Family Fares or on board** at no additional charge. It’s important to note the program does not allow for cross-honoring of discounted tickets between the railroads, meaning **LIRR customers cannot use their monthly tickets to travel on Metro-North and vice versa.** Additionally, three Montauk Branch LIRR trains and one Ronkonkoma train and its Greenport connection are exempt from the program–these include the following: * 7:13 am, 8:14 am, and 10:29 am trains from Jamaica to Montauk * 7:47 am train from Penn Station to Ronkonkoma and its connection * 9:14 am train from Ronkonkoma to Greenport Governor Hochul [stated:](https://www.mta.info/press-release/icymi-governor-hochul-announces-summer-saturday-discounts-returning-long-island-rail) > This is all about putting more money in New Yorkers’ pockets.
