Your Ultimate Guide to Eating, Drinking & Exploring
Having traveled to many places across the U.S., I can confidently say that Savannah and Charleston are among the most charming and laid-back cities in the Southeast—perfect for a long weekend getaway. Nestled in Georgia, Savannah is known for its 22 historic garden squares and beautifully preserved architecture. Strolling lazily along oak-lined streets, free from everyday worries, is an experience in itself. I recommend staying in the North Historic District—most restaurants and attractions are within walking distance, so there’s no need to rent a car. Start your walk from Forsyth Park, meander through the historic district, and make your way to the riverfront. 📍 Must-Visit Spots: River Street – My favorite place to wander. The riverside walk is incredibly peaceful, lined with quaint shops, restaurants, and bars. Forsyth Park– The largest and most beautiful city garden. The tree-lined promenade and central fountain are iconic. Chippewa Square – Famous filming location from Forrest Gump. The Cathedral Basilica – A stunning Catholic church, both inside and out. Wormsloe Historic Site – About 20 minutes from downtown, known for its breathtaking oak-lined entrance. Tybee Island – A 30-minute drive from the city. Visit Tybee Beach Pier and Pavilion for a gorgeous sunset, then head to Pier 16 for dinner. 📍 Restaurant Recommendations: 🦪 Common Restaurant – Go during happy hour for $1 oysters and an excellent drink menu. 🥗 The Collins Quarter – Try the chia seed pudding! Treylor Park – Amazing tacos. The Vault – Asian fusion with great ambiance and food. Juicy Seafood – Finger-licking good seafood boil. 🥢 Wang's II – A decent option if you're craving Chinese. 🍵 Afternoon Tea & Desserts: 📚 Gryphon – A charming tea room inside a former library. Highly recommended for afternoon tea. Foxy Loxy – Located near the park with a cozy backyard—perfect for a coffee break. Leopold's Ice Cream – Famous and often has long lines. Try banana, cookie, or peach flavors. 🍨 Doki – A delightful ice cream spot discovered by chance. 🍷 Bars: Alley Cat – Menu designed like a seasonal newspaper—highly recommended! 🌙 Electric Moon – Rooftop bar at the JW Marriott with amazing river views. I’ll save the rest for another post—stay tuned for more Savannah food spots and a guide to Charleston! #US #Florida #Jacksonville #Orlando
