Zanzibar Nungwi Street Food – Oh, Not Bad! 😋

Eating in Zanzibar can be tough—options are limited, prices are high, and the scorching sun makes it hard to even walk around. 🥵 After struggling with meals in Nungwi, I finally discovered a few decent spots worth trying! 1. Roadside Beef Bone Soup 🍖 📍 Location: Search for Snow White Laundry 💰 Price: 3000 TZS (~8 RMB) for a huge chunk of tender beef (see pic!). The meat is stewed until fall-apart soft. I brought my own hotpot seasoning and chili flakes, plus vinegar from a Dar es Salaam supermarket, then took it back to my hotel for dipping—so satisfying! ⏰ Hours: Dinner only, opens at 6 PM. They sell out fast, so go early to pick the best bone. One portion is HUGE—don’t overorder! Bonus: Next to the beef soup stall, there’s a mutton soup vendor (2500 TZS per bowl) served with flatbread. They also have small BBQ skewers. Didn’t try it, but my friends said it was good! 👍 2. Night Market BBQ Stall 🍢 📍 Location: Opposite King’s Restaurant (look for the popular stall on the right side) 💰 Price: Grilled beef/chicken skewers: 500 TZS (<1.5 RMB) Zanzibar "pizza" & beef burger: 5000 TZS ⚠️ Note: The cook handles money and then touches the food directly. If that bothers you, maybe skip this one. 3. Highland Restaurant ⚽🍺 Big screen for watching Premier League with Maasai locals—you can even move your table right in front! Lively atmosphere at night, decent prices (~30,000 TZS for two, including a Kilimanjaro beer for 4000 TZS). Play pool with the Maasai! Nearby, there are two more bars. 4. Badolina Tokyo Express 🍣 The only Asian food in Nungwi! When the heat kills your appetite, try their: Tuna sushi (with real pickled ginger!) Stir-fried noodles (actually tastes Asian!) Fresh local tuna (a Zanzibar specialty). 5. Mama Mia 🌊🍕 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! 180° ocean views—perfect for chilling with a drink all afternoon. Must-try: Bacon pizza 🥓 (so good!), but skip the burger (meh). Gelato is legit—passionfruit & lemon flavors taste just like Italy’s! Pro tip: Ask for a cup of ice with your Coke! 💰 Cost: $20–30 for two (can pay in USD or TZS at 2500 exchange rate). 6. Street Fruit Juice Stands 🍹 Mixed fruit juice (500 TZS): Sour-sweet, frozen into a slushie—perfect for strolling in the heat! (Look for the stall with a cooler in front.) Behind Mama Mia, there’s a mobile vendor selling: Mango + sugarcane juice Tamarind juice (1000 TZS per bottle). #Tanzania #TravelDiaries #Zanzibar #Nungwi #Arusha
