Zurich | Sechseläuten Festival ⛄️
Zurich's Sechseläuten, also known as the Send-Off to Winter Festival, takes place on the third Monday of April each year at the vicinity of Bahnhofstrasse and Bellevue Square. 📆 Festival Origin: The unique name originates from a 14th-century custom. Back then, the Great Church of Zurich would ring its bells at 6 PM on the day the summer working period began, marking the first bell chime as a sign of the beautiful spring to come. The parade starts at 3 PM 🕒, with participants dressed in traditional attire, carrying flowers, and marching alongside bands through the city streets adorned with flags, culminating at the square in front of the Opera House. On the square, a symbolic snowman named Böögg ⛄️ is erected, and at the stroke of 6 PM 🕕, it is set ablaze. The quicker the snowman's head burns and explodes, the better the summer is said to be. Although this year's ignition ceremony was canceled due to strong winds, we still look forward to a wonderful summer ahead! #Switzerland #Zurich #ZurichSechselauten
