Been to St Lucia 11 times and this is another of my “must go to”every time places. Located on a harbour in Castries down a rough road is the Coal pot, open air dining right on the edge of the water, very dim lit and romantic. Definitely a couples place to go on a island known for romance. Serves mostly fresh seafood, all prepared the way you request it. The menu is on a chalk board as it changes based on the fresh catch that’s available that day. Every meal I have had here has been well presented and delicious from start to finish, the service is excellent with people checking on you and striking up conversations The only negative was from one of our servers that complained that the owner keeps the automatic service charge added to the bill meant for them..... so I tipped over and above....but on asking my driver was told I got hustled ..... 😂oh well! Overall it was a great night and they really took care of me with both service and providing an excellent meal! Will definitely go back on my 12th visit! Update*** Back again Jan 2025…. Still delicious but with some nice changes to decor, beautiful and romantic, little thatched roof dining “pods” with no walls, letting the fresh Caribbean air in, giving you a view of the harbour which at night with the lovely lighting they have gives it that romantic feel Food is amazing from start to finish, deserts made in house, drinks tasty… service friendly, family run for generations….. zero complaints Pictures don’t do it justice in the evening

So we were on vacation searching for a local specialty called Callalloo soup. We were referred to this restaurant. We got there and they were between lunch and dinner, so they only did take out..at least we were told at first..I started walking around the restaurant and recording it on video because it was so beautiful, and the ocean is literally 3 feet from some of the tables. As I was narrating I came up to a woman sitting alone at the most beautiful spot in the restaurant. She asks "Is someone helping you?" I said yes, we are getting Callalloo soup to go..she said "NO, and told the staff to give us her table, and asked why we were not accomodated." She was the owner! VERY sweet lady. The staff, service, and ESPECIALLY the restaurant were impeccable. Everything is off the grill. I started with an amazing shrimp cocktail, then on to chicken in the best peppercorn sauce I've ever had. Even the veggies were great. I've never had potatoes that were seasoned and cooked so perfectly. The bread was fantastic. Just YUM. We also ordered the fish covered in crab. Everything was amazing. This restaurant was way more than just finding Callalloo soup (which was the best by the way, loved dipping the buttered bread in it), it was one of those life changing moments, an experience that I will never forget. You would be foolish to pass this up. Treat yourself, and please go!

This was the worst experience of my trip, the food was pricey but okay, the customer service was horrible , the stafff don’t pay you any attention if you don’t know the area. Our driver was suppose to be at the bar but we were told the establishment does not have a lounge area (which is new because I have been here 6 times before) a police officer/ security threatened our driver when he tried to enter to contact us because the staff did not let us know our driver was outside after he is old then to inform us , we waited 10-15minutes sitting there clueless. The officer was very unprofessional telling the driver he is rushing our dinner unaware that we are waiting on the driver to pick us up , the restaurant looks close but it is not walking distance and very dark area with no lighting and not a safe environment, the officer started arguing with our driver to the point where he threatened our driver and left very irate. He claimed the establishment is recently enforcing a rule that the drivers can’t come inside to meet their guest. My experience was very unpleasant.

Head to the Coal Pot for an intimate and romantic dinner. Finding it was a little tricky since you feel like you are heading to a dead end alley with closed up buildings along the way. Tucked to the back you will come down to the water and find the restaurant like a little glowing treasure. We absolutely adored the vibe and decor. Loved the candlelight and artist work that was seen throughout. So glad we saved this spot for our last night visiting the island. The service was fast and friendly. Our table had the crab back and cheesy seafood dip (it had a name I wasn’t familiar with). We had snapper, ribeye and mahi mahi and all were amazing. We finished with the chocolate cake and cream brûlée and they were both fantastic. The serving portions for the main course are substantial and we couldn’t finish all of the food. Several of us chose mix drinks and my only advice would be to offer more of a selection since all of them were fruity/tropical choices.

Mid June. Nighttime. This place is not that great. The service is SUPER SLOW. It took our food 2-3 hours to come out and there were only 3 other groups at the entire restaurant with us. They were literally OUT OF EVERYTHING. I think they were out of 7 different main dishes. Didn’t make sense to me honestly. I ordered the Duck, it was honestly pretty good but my friends ordered different types of fish and they did not like them at all. The appetizers were better then the main dishes. You also don’t get to choose your sides. Everybody gets the same sides. The prices are too much for you not to be able to pick your sides. They really need to lower their prices. If the prices weren’t so high, I wouldn’t have been mad at my experience. I went to several other places better than this spot.

Absolutely delicious and gorgeous experience. The Coal Pot is a 15-minute walk from the cruise port and worth it. We had the barracuda with green curry and salad Nicoise. My husband subbed in the barracuda for the tuna and the salad Nicoise, and it was terrific. We traded dishes halfway through our meal, so I got to try both. The wait staff, while busy, were amiable and helpful. The Coal Pot is a fine dining establishment, so be prepared to take your time. This is not a quick meal and is meant to be enjoyed and relaxed. I even got a complimentary cupcake for international women’s day. I do recommend mosquito repellent for the walk to the restaurant. If you are a single woman, I would not recommend walking by yourself. Take a cab from the cruise port, there are plenty to be found.
