Brenda's Pizzeria — Restaurant in Maryland

Statisticians say lightning never strikes the same location twice. After my meal at Brenda’s pizzeria tonight, however, I am certain that statement is false.

Six years ago, I had the pleasure of dining at Brenda’s Pizzeria and could not say anything negative about the food, atmosphere, or service. Tonight… lightning struck for a second time.

Our server (Gabe) efficiently waited our party of 20 with the utmost professionalism. One guest’s water cup had not been sat down empty for 5 seconds before he was offered a refill. Upon receiving our food, what was put on my plate was beyond my expectations.

To my amazement, the quality control has been so consistent since my previous dining experience. The crust? Perfectly crisp with a soft interior. The toppings? Generously applied. The flavors? Perfectly balanced.

I have been fortunate enough to enjoy Pasta Carbonara on the rooftops of Rome, pressed white fish along the shores of Lake Como, and Catalan Prawns in the old quarter of Barcelona. Despite the many wonderful meals and cuisines I have enjoyed, one meal that will be remembered as one of the best are the Pizzas from Brenda’s. Disappointing customer service! This was my first time coming here, it was recommended to me. We requested a window seat and they said it would be about 15-20 minutes wait. We said okay and that we will be right back, so we can go explore a store nearby to burn some time.

We came back right at 15 minutes to see a window seat being taken. We noticed the hostess preparing a table for us that wasn’t a window seat, and then played it off as if we didn’t request a window seat or wait for one. I asked if that table was the one we were going to sit at and she said yes.

I questioned her why we had just waited 15 minutes to get a seat that isn’t a window seat like we requested and she said something along the lines of “sorry, we can’t hold a window seat for you.” I requested to speak to the manager. The manager comes out and says something along the lines of “I can understand why you’re disappointed, I can offer you a big table at the end next to the window”.

Conclusion is the hostess should’ve had a table ready for us and she didn’t, then played it off as if she was giving us a window seat like requested. And the manager didn’t actually make it right, only offering a generic apology and large family table for 2 people. It just didn’t really feel right and we were happy to take our...

Brenda's makes some really good NY style pizza! Stopped here in the way back to Ohio based on Google reviews and we were pleasantly surprised. The AC was broken that day and it was very warm there, but the service was very quick, efficient and friendly. Ours even made sure to see if we needed boxes or the check before taking drink orders from a very large party, which was much appreciated. The pizza is available by the slice, as any true NY style shop should offer (though many don't) and priced very fairly. You select the sauce - red or white - and your toppings. I ordered a red sauce plain, red sauce with pepperoni and tomato and a white sauce with sausage and micro basil. Both sauces were delicious! The red is packed with tomato flavor and has a great balance of salty and sweet. The white sauce is creamy and garlicky and the ricotta cheese has an incredible flavor. My two complaints are the crust was pretty soft and lacked the crispy crunch of an NY slice. While the crust was still foldable, my toppings were loose and not melted in with the cheese so they all fell to the bottom of the fold. A minor inconvenience, but an important aspect of a great slice.

I will certainly visit Brenda's again, should I find myself in the area....
