Clear Sky Lodge Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Alaska

Stopped in as it was the closest place to eat from where we were staying. First impressions were not the best as we walked into the kitchen ( it is in the entrance between the bar & doorway), then we stood for a time in the kitchen waiting to be acknowledged ( do we seat ourselves or do we wait for the bartender to stop telling her story to seat us?). Finally flagged down a nice young guy who appeared to be working there & he helped us out… seat yourself. Our nice young guy was our waiter & took good care of us. We opted for cheese burgers & tots. Lots of food, but our burgers were very overdone ( our fault as we forgot to ask for medium rare). Since you can watch you food being made, noticed the cook went out twice during our stay for a smoke break… no hand washing upon return. Not good practice. Clear Sky Lodge is one of those places that makes you feel right at home the moment you walk in. The atmosphere is warm and rustic, with that true Alaskan lodge feel. What really stood out to me was the filet—cooked to perfection right in the dining room. Watching it prepared added to the experience, and the flavor did not disappoint. Tender, juicy, and seasoned just right—it’s easily one of the best steaks I’ve had in Alaska.

The service was friendly and attentive, and you can tell the staff take pride in what they do. Between the great food, comfortable setting, and genuine hospitality, Clear Sky Lodge is well worth the stop. Highly recommend if you’re anywhere...

Really disappointed. I've been looking forward to eating there since last year. I understand the place is under relatively new ownership. My biggest problem is that my daughter and I both wanted a steak. She wanted the filet and I the porterhouse. We both like our steaks medium rare. The filet was 2" thick and the porterhouse was about 3/4". The person on the grille cooked them the same amount of time- leaving a nice medium rare filet (which was quite good) and my horribly cooked porterhouse that was tough and flavorless. Too bad, as I was really looking forward to a good birthday steak. Oh well, the restaurants will all be open in the next 2 weeks...
