Iām a world traveling foodieā¦a New Yorker living in Albania for access to a healthy lifestyle for me; Uka Farms was a perfect fit!
New to the area, I decided to organize a Wine Tasting with a small group of expats and, an Albanian local business owner. What a blessing it was to discover the Uka Farm located approximately 20-minutes outside of the city center of Tirana.
We were greeted and guided through this farm to table and winery wonderland by the wonderful Flori Uka, doting son of this family business!
Flori was polite, confident, well-versed, and very knowledgeable about the history of organic farming, the science and functionality behind how to farm by respecting nature and allowing it to do itās thing.
As a Winemaker, Sommelier and farm expert, Flori covered the bases of how, when, where, why and what his family business is all about.
Explained in great detail, showing us real-life examples of their purpose and mission, it is clear that the hard work conducted at Uka Farm aligns with the health and wellness of the community and our planet.
It is safe to say that Flori can easily add Tour Guide and Maātridee to his CV/resume.
As we walked through the farm listening to the history of the Uka farming purpose and sustainability, we heard and viewed nature unfolding before our eyes. We heard the cows mooing, chickens clucking, while witnessing insects contributing to the process of Ukaās natural farmingā¦it was a wonderful sight to be seen.
After touring the farm and sampling various wines in his winery, Flori guided us back to the family Farm-to-Table restaurant where we continued our wine tasting, dining on foods grown on the Uka farm.
Flori promised we would not wake with a headache the next day, and this was true. What he didnāt warn us about was that I would dream of the delicious and hearty meal we enjoyed that night.
His story aligned 100% with our experience.
Congrats to the Uka family!
I highly recommend experiencing this for yourselfā¦brings lots of friends because regardless of how well you describe your experience there, they wonāt believe you you until they try it themselves!
Go.
Go now; donāt walk, runā¦run into the loving embrace of the best palate pleasing experience; you will thank...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSometimes I'm just having a great day and know it. Sunday was one of those days. I showed up unannounced moments before a very busy Sunday service was about to begin. Lucky for me it was super nice out so lots of people were going to the beach I still don't know why but as soon as we met, it was like old friends. He generously took an hour out of his busy day to walk us around his entire complex and poured us some incredible wines as well as placing us at the best seat in the house! More on that later. everyone please meet Flori, the genius and proprietor along with his dad behind @ukafarm @ukawine I had read about this place and was super excited. Flori takes farm to table to the next level. He is both a sommelier, chef, and scientist. He is more than just enthusiastic. He eats, sleeps, and breathes this place Flori is passionately Albanian and he wants the world to know that Albania, while it did not have the head start like the heavy hitters like France and Italy, has the climate, grapes, and determination to be one of the best wine regions in the world. Walking through his farm and vineyard was other worldly. I wish I could do @ukawine @ukafarm justice by being able to explain all the farming techniques he utilizes but I have never met someone so connected to the earth as him Instead of bringing in pesticides, for example, he studies what bugs and spores come in and creates machines to catch the spores and plants other vegetables and fruits that attract predators of those bugs. @ukafarm @ukawine makes some fantastic wines like a rose that reminds you of fresh watermelon, a true natural wine is as god (Flori) intends it, a bold 15.5% merlot and local varietal red that is to die for, and so much more. I think we had like 4 full glasses by the end of this. As I am sure you guessed, I had a billion questions and Flori @ukawine @ukafarm didn't just tolerate them, he welcomed them in like he welcomed me in. My favorite experience in all of Albania and enough of a reason to go back to Albania by itself. Okay and the food was unbelievable fresh, delicious, and gigantic portions. If you do not go here, you did not experience true Albanian cuisine or hospitality. Also, buy bottles to go, you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently visited Uka Farm in Tirana and it was an amazing experience. The farm is located in a beautiful rural area, surrounded by lush greenery and picturesque landscapes. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and they provided us with an informative tour of the farm.
One of the highlights of the visit was the opportunity to sample some of the farm's delicious organic produce. The tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers were all incredibly fresh and flavorful. We also had a chance to see some of the farm's animals, including cows, sheep, and chickens.
A fun fact about Uka Farm is that it has been in the Uka family for over 150 years, with each generation passing down their knowledge and expertise in farming. The farm has also implemented sustainable farming practices, including the use of natural fertilizers and pest control methods.
However, I should also note that Uka Farm can get quite crowded and noisy depending on the day and time of the visit. If you're looking for a quieter and more peaceful experience, it's best to visit during off-peak hours. Additionally, the parking area can also get crowded, so it's recommended to arrive early to avoid any inconvenience.
Overall, I highly recommend a visit to Uka Farm for anyone looking to experience the beauty and bounty of Albanian agriculture. It's a wonderful way to learn more about local food production and support sustainable...
