Kenko Sushi Restaurant — Restaurant in Luanda Province

This sushi restaurant is on the rooftop of the Palmeiras Hotel with great views over Southern Luanda and a nice laid back vibe. The restaurant seems to be merged with the rooftop bar and wider choice of food from a separate menu.

As a sushi restaurant the majority of the menu was sushi and sashimi with a few other appetisers and a miso soup but not much else. The sushi on offer includes both maki and hosomaki rolls as well as nigiri but there are no combos for individuals or smaller groups seeking greater variety (however there was a more expensive sashimi combination option).

I tried the Palmeiras roll, lobster and cheese wonton, and tiramisu. The sushi roll combination worked nicely with salmon, prawn and prawn tempura but the rice texture was heavy, dense and not seasoned too well, and the prawn "tempura" inside had a heavy regular batter rather than a light crispy tempura batter. The wonton also had a thick and nearly hard (rather than thin and crunchy) pastry and the filling didn't bring out a nice lobster flavour.

The sushi restaurant doesn't offer any Japanese desserts, but the wider hotel dessert menu is available here including cake, cheesecake and tiramisu.

This rooftop venue is a really nice place to sit back and relax and have a drink. However, the sushi restaurant offers acceptable food, but for me unfortunately doesn't cut it for sushi...
