Excellent place. In an elegant, wide-streeted mixed industrial and re-gentrifying area just to the south (Hipolito Yrigoyen is the first station on the train south from Constitución, where Subte C links with the impressive late Victorian overground station of the same name... it's a bit of a different clientele on the heavy trains, but it's all good. Make sure your train stops at Yrigoyen, or you'll have to come back from the next stop, which may shock the visitor a bit with its authenticity). El Puentecito claims descent from an colonial estate canteen from 1750 (before Rio de la Plata was even its own viceroyalty!). Spoilt for choice with the menu... rabbit, pickled tongue, frogs' legs, pastas, great salads - you can dictate how you want them dressed, which is a nice touch. I had caracoles a la burdelesa (snails in wine with pancetta and salami)... really incredible dish big enough for three, very enjoyable teasing them out of their shells. The jus was exquisite in itself.

So hard to rate this as the place is so lovely. 150 yrs old with beautiful traditional decor, lovely service and a big menu. We started with the rabas. Super fresh and perfectly delicious. I picked so wrong and went with the abadejo (pollock) for a nice white fish. It was inedible. So bad. Freezer burnt and even then cooked so poorly. So disappointed. Especially since my husbands asado was amazing and several folks around us has the gambas de ajo and they looked heavenly. Would definitely go back and try again for sure. But this time I would pick better.
