My son and I went there for the first time for lunch. Pleasant surroundings, nice view near the window. I wasn't keen on the butcher paper "table cloth" but can understand the thinking behind it. Ordering at the bar was no hassle. We were not served complimentary bread, until I mentioned it to my son, within earshot of one of the workers. We were offered the bread when our meals arrived, not even when our entree was delivered. My son had the chicken schnitzel with creamy garlic sauce and was happy with serving size, taste and cook. I ordered the porterhouse steak, medium/rare more to the rare, with house gravy. The worker offered the bread, after delivering our plates, so was delivering the bread after I cut into my steak an heard me tell my son that it was not medium rare. He asked if there was a problem and I said that it was not medium rare. He responded that they have this issue because the lights in the kitchen are bright fluoro and the lighting is different out here, so it looks medium rare in the kitchen but not in the dining room. This of course makes no sense as they didn't cut into the steak in the kitchen. So how can the brightness of lighting determine the cook of the steak, if the steak is not cut? I was offered a re-cook ( not an option when my son has his meal and both of us would then be waiting) or a refund, which meant that I would not eat at all. I told them I would eat it. He told me the chef has 15 years experience, as if to infer that my opinion was of less value. The entire steak was covered in cracked pepper, you would think it to be a pepper steak. I do not do pepper, I do not recall ever receiving a steak at a restaurant covered in pepper, so do not class it as standard practice. The salad dressing also had liberal serving of cracked pepper. The steak was tender, not flavoursome. The accompanying chips were the best part of the meal for me. I doubt that I will return here due to the meal itself as well as the attitude of the...

Gorgeous looking pub, really nice venue. Ordered 6 oysters Kirkpatrick, for entree but sadly they had none. So ordered garlic bread instead.. typical garlic bread, nice. Then for mains, I ordered Hand cut salt and pepper squid. Sadly, this wasn't hand cut fresh squid, it was pineapple cut frozen Squid, that you buy from the supermarket, as I have bought it many times and know the taste. It was very tough... certainly not what I was expecting. Side salad was delicious. My partner had the Guinness Pie with mashed spuds, and absolutely enjoyed it! Very good sized serve. Dessert was French Vanilla and Strawberry cheesecake, with whipped cream and strawberries.. to be fair, I thought they gave me the wrong dessert. It was a round flan/tart. (From a frozen packet according to our table attendant) The base wasn't at all like a cheesecake, it was like a heavy pastry .. the 'cheesecake' filling was half a cm in height, and was like custard tart, nothing cheesecake about it at all, and the whipped cream was out of a can, so had lost its life basically, and I ended up with less than half a teaspoon of deflated cream and 1 half of a strawberry. Very disappointing. This dessert isn't a cheesecake, and should be represented as a flan instead. Sadly, it was inedible. Then we had a Frosty fruit cocktail.. omg, these were amazing!! Refreshing and so yummy, I easily could have had a few more!! Overall, a lovely venue, but the food needs to represent what it states on the menu better. Would consider going back ... even if just for...

Fathers Day: Initially we were quite happy, until it came to ordering. 3 meals out of 6 came to the table, plus 2 being brought to the table we didn’t order. After 45 minutes of being patient I asked about the other 3 meals. After another 10 minutes 2 meals arrived. I enquired about the 3rd to be rudely told ‘I don’t have three hands’. Not what I asked, nor was the response warranted. The meals themselves ranged from cold, to warm to hot, and that was on one plate!! The Shift Manager Brooke was extremely apologetic & offered us free desserts, which I’m sorry to say were inedible. It was obvious they were overbooked without the staff capacity or kitchen facilities to deal with the number of customers. I am extremely upset over the whole experience, my Dad has mobility & health issues impacting his ability to leave the house for a meal with his family and...

We had a group of 16 ladies attend for lunch last week. Unfortunately all of us were disappointed. The main problem was that meals came out in groups of what was ordered eg. all fried halloumi came out together, then 20 minutes later fish came, then 20 minutes later AB bowls etc. then about an hour later, from the first dishes, came the roasts. Unfortunately the roast lamb had weird chemically looking green bits in it. The colour was so off putting. Staff said it was parsley or garlic but none of us have ever seen that toxic looking colour on food ever. One lady couldn't eat the roast at all so they took it away with no offer of any compensation. That's just not good enough. The halloumi was cut way too thinly so it got cold and rubbery quickly. Its a shame because we need a great pub like this to excel.

Cold rainy night saw the Mr. and me out for tea. The hotel was busy, people sitting inside and others braving the cold. We had booked a table earlier in the day. We say near the windows but it was too dark and rainy to see out. We shared a bowl of onion Rings and bbq sauce, and the Batter was crispy, not only. The onion was cooked, and you were able to bite the onion ring without it pulling out of the batter. I had a chicken snitzel with Dianne sauce, and my sides were steamed veggies and chips. The veggies were cooked just right, the chips crunchy and the sauce creamy. The snitzel was thick and juicy. I finished off with the strawberry and vanilla cheesecake... this was homemade and served with a raspberry couli...yummy.

A great olde-world pub with a good selection of beers (today had Scottish Tennants on special) and the draught Guinness is exceptional (recommended). The food is top drawer - very good pizzas and Guinness pie and the pizza bread starter is the tastiest I have ever had. As we sat outside, the friendly barman came out to put up the sun shades and we ate the great food while a superb selection of pop music played in the background at the right volume to be unobtrusive. I noticed there were some musical events advertised on the wall and, apparently, St. Patricks night is worth the visit, with a band to match the great quality of Guinness. I would love for this pub to be my 'local'
