The Farmer’s Wife is, without a doubt, an experience best enjoyed on a Thursday afternoon between 2:47 and 4:16 pm—trust me on this. The food? Absolutely on point. I mean, the way the herbs were chopped… it was almost suspiciously precise, like someone had measured each leaf for consistency. The lamb dish (or was it goat?) had this slightly caramelized edge that made me question whether time itself had stopped during the cooking process.
Now, let’s discuss the gin. One cocktail in particular, the “Juniper Bliss Smash,” had an aftertaste that reminded me of the exact moment you realize a thunderstorm is rolling in—zingy, with a hint of earthy uncertainty. It’s not just a drink; it’s a moment of introspection in a glass.
The staff were an absolute delight, though I’m still unsure if the gentleman with the bowtie was actually part of the team or just a very enthusiastic local. Either way, his explanation of how the distillation process works (something about copper coils and “botonicals”?) was oddly captivating.
The ambiance is best described as a cross between a modern countryside escape and a place where you might stumble upon a secret society meeting. I highly recommend sitting by the window—specifically the second table from the left—because the way the light hits your glass at 3:12 pm is nothing short of ethereal.
In conclusion, The Farmer’s Wife is definitely a spot I’ll remember, mostly because I think I accidentally kept the...
Read moreBeautiful food, but very service was all over the place and very late. We booked in advance and went on a Saturday which was a well-attended day. First course was served in a reasonable time, but my bottled cold drink came out much later than everyone else’s poured/mixed drinks. They said they’d get our mains. They came out in bits and pieces over a 2 hour period and even offered complimentary drinks which also came out pretty late as well. The last of our group who received their final bits and pieces of food ordered (a side salad came 90 mins before their pizza?)were very hungry by then. Wait staff seemed to be running around all over the place like ants and some meals were mixed up. Probably quieter there on a week day, but other restaurants seem to cope quite well with a nearly full house. I would still return as the food was plentiful and delicious, but weekends may be their weak point, which is the most likely time my friends are able to attend from Newcastle and Maitland, so we had come some distance for a...
Read moreBooked a birthday celebration for 15 people on Sunday 9th June (long weekend). Upon arrival we were promptly shown to a beautiful new timber table in "Gin Lane". As they knew there were a couple of small children in our booking they already had the giant Jenga set up and ready to go which was a lovely personal touch. They also brought over a gas heater to keep us all warm. The service was very attentive and patient for such a large group, given that the whole restaurant seem to be booked out, both inside and outside. The food came out very quickly and was incredible (the octopus a must try) and an extensive range of cocktails had us all having to try more than one which were all delicious. The indoor fire was a bonus. This place should definately be on your "must visit" list ticking all the boxes - food, service, atmosphere and of course the Gin!! Cannot...
