September 2020: A charming gem in the local area. While we were here only as outside visitors, it was evident that this tea house serves as an inclusive community hub, and you will be greeted with warm and friendly service. We had a lamb and hommus dish for lunch that was nicely presented and tasty. And importantly, they serve a wide range of teas along with delicious old(e)-school style scones (chunky rectangular vs the round cookie cutter ones). If you are staying in Bethungra or passing through the area, definitely try to make the effort to check this place out!

Great food, lovely place (nice old schoolhouse) and charming locals. Still think about it a couple of years on and will definitely go back if I'm in the area. But they did have terrible phone reception so they had no EFTPOS that could get a signal (and I didn't carry cash) so we found a way to send money via bank transfer from my phone to the owner's account. That's the only reason I marked it down to 4 stars. However that was a couple of years ago and it's probably resolved now. Still, if I was back around there I'd make sure I carried cash just in case. Also the place is a nursery with...

The Olde School Tea House in Bethungra is one of my favourite places I visited while staying in the Riverina. Stopping here and feeling instantly welcomed by Gaylene and Garry Crabtree felt more like visiting someone’s home than a business. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced, the plant nursery and finches were delightful, and I was ushered into the 'back' to pat the shiny support dogs Banjo and Kenny. Everyone in the tea room was up for a chat and I felt way less homesick after I left...
