Horderns at Milton Park — Restaurant in Bowral

This place used to be a fantastic French restaurant which my parents loved so I booked for a special birthday. But the place seems to have lost some of its lustre. The price of the food is pretty steep, and most of the table was a bit disappointed. The entrees were absolutely tiny. My main was incredibly salty, and the kingfish (unfortunately 3 people at the table ordered it) was entirely bland and half cold...and also tiny. We decided not to waste our money on dessert, but found we almost couldn't leave because the staff had all vanished. Literally just gone. After 10min of waiting, our table and another table had to goto the front counter of the hotel and ask to pay. The staff were now running the internal bar!

Dropped into the Horden’s Restaurant on a Saturday on 3/11/18 to enjoy dinner with my wife. Situated a short drive from Bowral, Horden’s is a palatial home converted to a hotel, restaurant and wedding venue. The gardens surrounding the main building was truly reminiscent of gardens one would expect to see in Britain or France. It seemed to be a popular venue for weddings and one was in full swing when we arrived. The restaurant itself was somewhat small but inviting. The decor was in keeping with quite traditional atmosphere. The staff was very attentive and helpful. I felt that the menu choices could be a bit more extensive. Very sweet service but needed much more training. Honestly the food was below average. It was over handled and prepared ahead of time. I think the problem is that the chef is trying to make the food very aesthetic while not focusing on the quality or taste. My partner order the wagyu and asked for it rare, they refused to cook it rare ... quite strange. It was very quiet and awkward, there was no music playing so the other patrons and us were uncomfortable to talk about a whisper. After our subpar entrees we cancelled our mains.
