My wife and I have been looking for a decent chinese restaurant since moving to Whitby last year. We've tasted every chinese restaurants available in the area and we were always left with mixed feelings about whether we'll come back again.
Golden dragon tea house opened in July (so I heard) and they have impressed us the minute we stepped in.
Service: prompt, polite service and knowledgeable about their dishes. They were willing to accomodate my weird craving for noodle soup which they only serve during lunch hour.
Dishes: we ordered a vegetarian omelette, a lunch time wonton noodle dish, and a mixed vegetables dish. The omelette is packed full of flavours with very generous serving of at least 6 types of vegetable. Wonton noodle soup taste great. The home made shrimp wontons were fresh and juicy while noodles were cooked al dante. Definitely reminiscent of my childhood dish.
Prices: it's a little steep for what we ordered. So take that into consideration.
Overall: I will come back again and definitely recommend anyone to come try it out. They've only just opened so I'm sure there's more...
Read moreUpdate Aug 2019* New owners have dropped the quality and taste of the menu. It's very generic flavour and no love in the food from the chef, really disappointed it's gone down hill. New staff are young and no dress code or uniform, service is to get you in, fed and out, no real atmosphere anymore.
Jan 2019 First time trying the Golden Dragon Tea House, it was very good! Great local restaurant in Byford.
Table service was fast and friendly.
Plenty of prawn cracks on arrival and throughout the meal, wife and I opted for the banquet for 2 (7 dishes). Was so full from the meal we had to take the leftovers home. Very tasty, all meals came out hot and huge servings. Would recommend the banquet for 2 can feed 3 or 4 ppl.
Price is a little higher than normal, but worth it as the quality and servings...
Read moreUsually we enjoy our food from here but tonight it was very disappointing. So greasy & oily in nearly all dishes, more than usual. Combo omelette looked like it was scrambled and tasted like they'd forgotten hlaf the eggs. Spring rolls very greasy and nothing hardly in them, possibly oil not hot enough. Cashews in chicken cashews burnt. We spent over$150 and not very happy tonight with half of our dishes. Sweet and sour pork good, steamed rice good, chicken satay skewers good. Service on the phone and in shop was good. Would go to other local Chinese if they are open instead and probably avoid this one now...
