If there were half stars this would be a 2.5/5. I had been invited to the club and after looking at menu prices it seemed like the best option was to sign up to be a member (all meals are $5 cheaper as a member... coincidentally the same price as membership. It really feels like they just want people to sign up). So, I found they had a form online to join. I completed this, but you can't pay at the time of submitting, the message advised I'd hear something to complete the process. I never heard anything back. When I went to the club and mentioned I'd already started the process the person at the front desk said "oh that never works". So, why have it at all? Where did my information go? This meant having to fill out all the information again on a form. Meanwhile, pretty much everything asked of me was available on my licence, why is the form needed or why can't it be digital? So, this did not bode well for my first trip to the Lakes in almost a decade. I found my party and there was a lovely view of the golf course and it was nice and bright throughout. The chairs in the dining area were also decently comfortable (though apparently the same can't be said for the booth seats. They're very narrow). I ordered a burger and my partner ordered the Club Sandwich. They looked quite good when they arrived but then they just tasted of nothing. The burger has pickles so I thought a bite into those would have a strong flavour. Nothing. The only thing that I could taste was mayo (though they say it's aioli on the menu) and the beef of the burger. The menu says the burger has tomato relish, but it was the lightest smear and I couldn't taste it. It also seemed like tomato sauce. Considering these were $20 meals, they were pretty disappointing. Fortunately, we decided to grab a chocolate milkshake and some desserts. The shake was very good and the desserts were excellent, though a little expensive ($10 each or $8 if you're a member - refer to previous comments about non-member pricing...). My partner was still raving about the chocolate mousse for hours after. By mid afternoon we were asked to move out of the dining area, which we had no issues with, but there was minimal seating near the bar and any empty table was covered in plates and glasses - there were also issues in the dining area where someone came around for glasses, but plates were never cleared. I'm not sure why the glass person couldn't take the plates too. Overall it was a pretty average experience, and definitely not worth the price. Club food at...
Read moreThis has been a long overdue review. We usually have a good time at this place, the food and portion size are good and the ambiance is nice. But I found out last April 30th that this place is not as kid- friendly as we thought. We had several issues with a floor manager with regards to kids. We are a group of 2 families with kids and the younger one’s are aged 6 and 1 ½ yr old. Whilst waiting for the main restaurant to open we passed our time at the games room. As anyone with a kid especially those that has just started to walk, they like to wonder around of course this is supervised as they are prone to accidents themselves.
1st the younger ones were checking out the place just wondering around, the restaurant is not cordon off especially from the games room, they went to check the view and was running back (Note that the 1 ½ yr old can’t run around that fast whilst the 6yr old was trying to assist him not to trip) to the games room this happened maybe twice (different set of parents supervising) and we were told off by the floor manager twice (she said she told us off “politely” but it was in a very passive aggressive tone).
2nd , this time near the games room area - the 1 ½ yr old picked up a ball from the games room and went out the door. We were 2 adults waiting outside on the dining tables and we were immediately told off again. Noting the kid wasn’t running at all and is easily within reach. This floor manager told us off again with a very passive aggressive tone. We think she deliberately passed by that area and was really checking on us to tell us off again!
Finally, told my husband of what has occurred. He agreed that it felt like we were being targeted. Next thing you know the floor manager was hanging around the pizza area again just staring at the group that is when my husband felt he had to confront her to understand why we were being picked on. Our kids are not rowdy kids and our guest’s kid is a 1 ½ yr old how can she think or seem to feel that they are causing disturbance. After the discussion with the floor manager, she said that we are not being picked on and she didn’t talk to us with an attitude and left. But while leaving she kept on muttering that she was not giving us an attitude and that we are the one's raising our voice and we told her who would not raise their voice if she has that kind of bossy and racist attitude. For a person in the F&B/hospitality business I don’t think she deserved to be there. Nothing courteous or gracious came out from...
Read moreEDIT: Ok, so we came back for another try. My husband had the laksa which was ok. Not great, not terrible but ok, if anything lacking in any real flavour. He did say the prawns were nice and fresh. This time I went what should have been a tried and true (and safe) choice - a chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce. The menu said it came with slaw (which was partly why I ordered it) but it only came out with a pretty average garden salad - and that was after I had to remind the waiter that it came with salad. The schnitzel itself was the singularly most bland schnitzel I've tasted. I didn't realise it was possible to remove all flavour from a chicken schnitzel and the mushroom gravy, but they managed it. I ate it because it was hot and I was hungry but it was the most disappointing schnitzel I've ever had. I don't think we'll be back to the club bistro for a third try. Next time I'll just go to the GSpot in the carpark... their schnitzel with chips and gravy is awesome! P.s. on our first trip we actually did tell the wait staff about my steak. Their response... "oh, sorry about that. So you're done then with your plate."
We've just moved to the area and thought we'd give the club bistro a try. The chicken wings were huge - we were expecting the wingets rather than full wings so had way too many! My husband's lamb shank was quite nice but my scotch fillet was very, very overcooked. I asked for medium rare, it was medium well, or really more well done. Unfortunately it was dry and not all that nice so I left half of it on the plate... unfortunate given what it cost and the fact that I was starving! We also found it very noisy although it was Friday night and we were seated in the bar area because the restaurant was full. We will give it another try but I'll know to steer well clear of...
