Probably Australia’s least friendly town, would prefer port Pirie. The bakery was $6.30 for an outsourced ‘cheese and bacon pie’ and ‘pepper pie’. Exact same pie we have bought before in plastic packaging from servos. Or you can pay $8 for a ‘homemade mince pie’. As well as this, was treated like a criminal by a local for daring to walk out the door of the supermarket then glared down by her as she drove off. The supermarket doesn’t even sell ham, I live in the Torres Strait which is 1000x more remote than this place and can get more variety of food cheaper. Couldn’t even find somewhere to put air in our tyres. Do not recommend this place. The only redeeming quality is the bay, but even then there’s nicer beaches in SA. You can however tell council puts a lot of effort into the beach spaces, nice walks and public toilets. But apart from the, the locals need a wake up call, you can’t be that small of a town and be that rude. Also the bakery needs to either make their own pies or put the prices down the absolute frozen and reheated smut...

I may have found the best custard tarts in Australia. I have been on a selfless quest to find the best custard tart in Australia, stopping at every bakery we can find on our travels to purchase a tart to taste test. To date the best tart I have found has been in Gunnedah NSW, but today all that changed. Elliston Bakery on the Eyre peninsula in SA, in my view has the best custard tart in Australia. A flavoursome creamy custard taste, with a filling that just melts in your mouth and a pastry that not only taste great but holds it all together. As thetravellingtart I will continue to search for an even better tart. Unfortunately there are lots of tarts around, but flavoursome, quality tarts are a rare commodity. Thank you Elliston Bakery, you made the drive from...

My partner and I stopped in on our way through, we are never ones to complain and I have never really left a review, however this was the worst customer service I’ve ever encountered!!! The older guy working was rude and blunt to everyone who walked in and seemed like the smallest asks where the biggest hassle to him. When it was our time to order we felt nervous and pressured to hurry up and get in and out I was even too anxious to ask for a coffee so I left it. The pie was nice however the experience wasn’t worth it! Not a welcoming bakery and we left feeling very shaken up! Will not recommend...

I got the vegetarian pasty for $5. Would you detour off the highway just for the pasty? No... But it was a hefty pasty that will satisfy you and the view at the foreshore definitely IS worth the detour. The first couple of bites of the pasty were incredibly dry as the pastry was quite thick (but well cooked and flaky). Once I got to the filling it was more enjoyable, but still needed a little sauce for lubrication. All up a decent pasty.

We pretty much got one of everything at this bakery and it was all exceptional, coffee included. One thing I must say is that I’ve never in my life had a banana cake this good. The moisture level was insane and the icing was flavoursome. If there’s a better banana bread in SA please someone tell me I dare you
