Decided to spend easter lunch at the crown in as i used to go there often years ago and always enjoyed it.Had a booking for 8 people. 4 of which ordered steak- 1 x scotch, 1 x porterhouse and 2 x rump. Scotch was delectable but the 3 others were inedible. Asked for medium for PH, got rare. 2 x rump was as chewy as my boot. Also ordered the creamy garlic pasta. It was so spicy! You could see flakes of red chilli throughout yet nothing was mentioned at all about it containing chilli on the menu. Weren't asked how the meal was at conclusion so we offered advice about the quality of the meat. Well! The male that served us is obviously in the wrong profession. Absolutely no manners at all when it comes to dealing with the public. Yelling at us with a big loud voice about how we should have said something at the start of the meal, how we had better not leave a complaint, and reminding us of THAT IS HOW YOU ORDERED THE MEAT TO BE COOKED! He came out from the kitchen and said well refund you 2 steaks and that's it!!. Nothing was even mentioned about refunding the pasta that was too spicy to eat and tbh I was too scared to say anything about it. He was a tall man, very loud, obnoxious and rude. I dont know if it was because it was a public holiday and he didn't want to be at work, he was having a bad day or if he is just a horrible person but just from his service alone, none of us will be returning and we will most definitely not recommend them to anyone. Yes, they refunded 2 x steaks that were inedible, but the way he spoke down to us, is enough to never go back there again. Considering between us we spent close to $400, basically it's an Easter meal I'd...
Read moreAn old pub (about 1835) that serves regular pub meals at reasonable prices, with daily 'specials'. Nothing fancy or exceptional - just 'home-cooked' type of meals. I enjoyed my lunch of crumbed scallops with vegetables but my wife said that her meal (roast pork and veggies) was just okay as the potato bake was cold and the green beans were a bit soggy. The pork itself, however, she thought was pretty good. The decor inside is fairly dark and tired and needs a good make-over and there were a good number of cigarette butts on the ground outside - even though bins are provided. We found the staff to be cheerful, attentive and helpful. This is an old country pub, not a restaurant so we shouldn't expect too much. Not sure we'd go there again for a special occasion but it would be OK if you wanted a quick meal...
Read moreThe genuine & friendly service makes up for the average food. The young lady looking after our table went out of her way to make sure that our 20 month old baby girl was looked after, completely unexpected and thoroughly appreciated. The food was dated and what you expect from a regional pub in the 80's or 90's. We had a seafood plater designed for two but easily fed three adults and one hungry toddler, so value wise you get a decent serving for your cash, the let down was in the application. All the fried items were very greasy, I'd hazard a guess the oil was to cool to fry properly. All the other hot items were cold, example oysters Kilpatric were made with care but cold on delivery. I'd certainly go again and try something simpler from the menu just to see if it was a bad day with an...
