Mar & Dar’s Cafe at Lake Conjola on the NSW South Coast is a charming spot that offers an experience as unique as its name. Situated on a prime corner with lovely views of the main road, the cafe provides an excellent vantage point for those who enjoy a bit of people-watching while they sip their coffee or grab a quick bite. The outdoor seating area is particularly inviting on a sunny day, allowing patrons to soak up the laid-back coastal atmosphere that Lake Conjola is known for. The menu at Mar & Dar’s Cafe focuses on simple, hearty fare, with a standout selection of toasties that cater to various tastes. However, it is their ham and cheese toastie that has gained something of a legendary status among locals and visitors alike. Priced at just 6 AUD, this humble sandwich is not only delicious but also outstanding value, which makes it especially popular. The cafe can get quite congested during the morning rush, as both locals and visitors flock to grab this affordable delight. The toastie is crafted with care and attention to detail, using two slices of bread that are perfectly toasted to a golden brown. The bread has a delicate hint of butter on the outside, adding a subtle richness to each bite. Inside, the toastie features a single piece of round, super-thin ham, which is cut to the exact size of a beer coaster. This choice might seem modest at first glance, but the ham's thinness allows it to meld perfectly with the slice of processed cheddar cheese that it shares the spotlight with. The cheese, sourced from the esteemed Harold Walpole’s Great Cheese Emporium of West Chichester, melts beautifully, creating a creamy contrast to the slightly salty ham. The overall effect is a toastie that manages to be both comforting and satisfying, despite its simplicity. One of the cafe’s quirks is its lack of napkins, a detail that might catch some diners off guard, especially when handling a potentially messy toastie. While there are knives and forks available, the absence of napkins means that patrons should come prepared, particularly if they’re planning to enjoy their toastie on the go. This minor oversight doesn't detract from the overall experience, but it’s something to be aware of, especially for those who prefer a more hands-on approach to their food. Overall, Mar & Dar’s Cafe is a delightful little spot that perfectly captures the relaxed vibe of Lake Conjola. The ham and cheese toastie is a must-try, offering a nostalgic nod to comfort food done right. Whether you’re passing through the area or spending the day by the lake, this cafe is well worth a visit for its inviting atmosphere, great views, and simple yet delicious offerings. Just don’t forget to bring your own napkin!

Very warm welcome and excellent customer service.....and great coffee. We were passing through and stopped for lunch. Our dog was welcome to sit with us on the balcony and fresh water was supplied. The Chicken Ceasar Salad was too much to eat so a takeaway container was asked for and received with thanks. A little gem that deserves the tourist dollars. Thank you guys! The roos across the road are local celebs apparently.

Very disappointing experience today. We bought 2 meals worth $20 each & 2 cakes $7.50 each, we were then charged a surcharge on top, even though we were paying cash???!!!! Total cost should have been $55, instead we were charged $61.50 We can appreciate surcharges for paying card, but to surcharge for cash & because it's a Sunday is a joke. We also never saw any signs notifying of a Sunday surcharge. The quality of the food was also average & not worth the price charged. Additionally, the service from the younger staff member was not professional. She approached us saying " Are you the ones with the food" & didn't even know our order or what was in the box? We had to open the box to see what's inside?? They also forgot another customers order, who was there before us. This experience today has now lost you business, we won't be back for the remainder of our stay or in January. Your surcharge has lost you alot of money that would have been...

Nice little café with pleasant staff, however food was unfortunately a let down when we visited for breakfast a few days ago. Croissant was what appeared to be straight from a Supermarket pack, small & toasted flat and dry. Hash Browns very oily. Round packet ham used in the Eggs Benedict. Felt as though no real effort was put into the food. Have read reviews about the great food, but can't agree with our experience on this occasion. I hope this is seen as constructive feed back to help lift their game , as it could be a great local Cafe destination if the food is...
