Well that was dysfunctional. Easter Sunday, so maybe things arenât normally like this. This was our dining timeline:
1pm - arrival 1.20pm - hadnât been offered menus so had to catch a staff memberâs attention and ask for them. Inexplicably this didnât include a drinks menu so I went looking for one myself and ended up borrowing one from neighbouring diners. 1.45pm - we had to flag down a staff member to take our order. 2.15pm - two dishes out of six were brought to the table. 2.25 - remaining dishes brought to table, except for my bread and my mumâs tea 2.40pm - had to follow up with staff about bread and tea. By this point my kids had well and truly lost the plot. 2.45 - bread and tea brought to table and Iâm still baffled about what caused bread (which wasnât hot from the oven) and tea to take so long. 3pm - went to counter to pay. Itâs not signed where you do this and was ignored by several team members and had to ask if I was in right spot. Turns out I wasnât so I moved to spot I thought was the right one. 10 minutes later Iâm still ignored, staff serving customers around me. I had to ask again and finally realised the correct (unsigned) spot to pay. After such a drawn-out dining experience, having to wait so long to pay really made my eyeballs twitch. Iâm sure itâs annoying to have expectant customers waiting in a spot theyâre not supposed to but please, just tell them?
In all of this, staff didnât seem aware of their surrounds, almost avoiding eye contact. Maybe the working environment isnât great for them and if so, thatâs a shame.
Whether this all happened because of poor training and ill-conceived processes, it left a very bitter taste for all of us. While the quality of the food was fine, itâs very expensive for what it is. Eg. $32 for gummy shark which is served with Birdâs Eye beer battered chips. My bread was served with dukka that had no detectable spice - it was untoasted nuts and seeds. Not offensive but also but dukka.
Beyond this, my husband who isnât particularly big couldnât sit properly in his seat because a chair from another table behind him was too close. The dining room was so full of tables and chairs that both staff and customers couldnât get around them. That seems like an OH&S risk to me.
Hope Wyanga Park management can take these points on board because itâd be a shame if more customers have similar experiences to this. I had been really looking forward to coming here given the overall Google rating and the way it...
Read moreWe visited Wyanga Park Winery for their Mexican Night dinner and were absolutely delighted! We found the winery easily using Google Maps, and from the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the warm, rustic atmosphere. The venue itself is super cosy, filled with quirky artwork and creative touches that make it feel more like a hidden treasure than just a winery.
The night was buzzing â clearly a favourite among locals and travellers alike â but the team handled the busy crowd beautifully. We started with a wine tasting, which was a lovely way to sample their range (highly recommend the whites!). It was a great way to ease into the evening and pick up a bottle or two for home.
Dinner was the highlight â I had the chicken fajitas, and my husband had the deconstructed tacos. Both meals were fresh, generous in portion, and packed with flavour. You can tell a lot of love and care goes into their food. Despite it being Mexican night, the ingredients and presentation felt refined, not rushed.
Another great touch is the little shop area where you can buy their wines, as well as local jams and artisan products â a perfect way to support small producers in the area.
We will definitely be back next time weâre in Lakes Entrance. This is the kind of place you stumble across and immediately want to tell all your friends about. Whether youâre going for the wine, the food, or just to soak in the vibe, Wyanga Park...
