We met a guy in the Cairns market selling the coffee beans from this place and he recommended a trip out to Coffee works for the museum and the coffee. So glad we did. The coffee museum has to be seen to be believed, the guy who originally collected all the coffee paraphernalia had to have been a little touched as there are literally thousands of pieces of coffee history. The museum is well worth the visit, walking you through the history of coffee from its earliest times in the mid-east, through its expansion into Europe and then the world. Its really well organised and a quality set of displays, you don't often see better in big museums. With the ticket to the museum comes entry to the tasting room, drink as much coffee and liqueur as you want, eat as much chocolate. By the time you leave the tasing space, you will be vibrating!. The cafe is good, with great coffee (to be expected) and really good foods. The salads were fresh and the lettuce crunched! I'm not sure how well-known Coffee works is but it deserves to be better known. We will actually now be ordering our coffee from them and having it shipped back to Sydney regularly. If you want to drive its a nice loop from Cairns, Palm Cove, Port Douglas, Mareeba and back through Kuranda to Cairns.

I heard such great things about this place from my aunty who lives locally and has been visiting regularly for the past decade or so and disappointing is an understatement. Went for breakfast and the food truck menu meant we had to have food in takeaway containers - very wasteful and unnecessary when it’s right next to the kitchen with plates and cutlery for the cakes. Unfortunately I have a real sensitivity to onion so the salsa on the avo toast special was unexpected and left a bad taste in my mouth even though I had scraped it off the soggy bread it wasn’t as appalling as the service. The server in the food truck seemed like they didn’t want to be there and the team all gossiping behind the counters didn’t come out and clear any of the tables until they saw their friends come in, but it was going into the gift shop to get something for my partner when things got worse. A staff member who also seemed inconvenienced to be working in the store later served us and was blunt and rude to my aunty (she was nice to me when I was on my own but perhaps because I’m foreign) The coffee was nice, but the vibes were way off. Would recommend buying coffee from there but not enduring the staff longer than you have to

Been living in Cairns for over 25 years and have taken many friends from overseas and interstate to the Coffee Works.. The last time was the worst however and I don't feel like I ever want to come back. The young girls behind the coffee counter seem to have beef over who you can order coffee with.. We rudely got told the other staff member was taking our orders so we bravely did. Then we got told to get out of the garden as we have two little dogs with us.. This is ok.. I understand some places have rules like that even though we got seated on the other side of the timber fence not a few metres away while there was no one there.. Strange.. Worst thing however was when my friend asked for sugar once our coffee was served. Wow.. How did we dare ask for sugar? How many?!! Won't visit again as it is a long drive and there are many lovely coffee places around where they are happy to have customers. Denigrating staff.. Unpleasant experience.. Picture: no one In this garden but get out! 😄

Unbelievable what happened to my wife and I today. We ordered a takeaway mokka. We were told that it could take up to 10 minutes. No problem. We waited patiently 10 minutes, 20 minutes and after half an hour we said that unfortunately, we couldn't wait any longer and asked for our money back. Well, they were very busy and we didn't have time to wait any longer. My wife got a VERY nasty response from an attendant that it would only take a few more minutes. I asked for the person's name as I didn't like this attitude and the tone my wife was spoken to: Jay was the name.

I wanted to have a talk to the manager, as I'd rather speak to the manager than leaving bad reviews, when I was told that this Jay actually was the manager and I should "FK OFF" (I don't use these words). Jay turned around, never to be seen again.

First of all it is understandable that it can be stressful on busy days and we wouldn't have complained about the time. We just wanted our money back as we couldn't wait any longer. This review is just for this bad attitude - not the time it took for the mokka.

We are locals. My wife and I spent $110 last weekend, $60 this weekend, about $500 over the year, and we will be spending $0 in the future.

What a disappointment.

Our Coffeeworks reward card ended in the bin today.

UPDATE: Thank you for getting back to me. I think you have been misled by your staff. There was absolutely NO reason for me to get aggressive. We only didn't want to wait any longer and wanted to get our money back. That's all. There was no reason to be abusive. We understand that it can get stressful at times but that is no reason to twist the truth and abuse your customers. We have not threatened anybody. Why should we? The contrary: We have been told by Jay to FK OFF. Wow.

Maybe someone should visit your establishment on a busy day incognito to find out yourself what's going on. Or have a look at your cameras if I really "followed your staff members through the venue"....

Like 20+ coffees to choose from and they dont actually serve any of them. Yeah its cool if you want beans for home. And $15 for a sandwich. Yeah right. Dont go there expecting a cafe. At least put a sign out saying we dont serve the coffees we "make".

Edit Reply: I was informed by locals that this place offered a decent menu, backed up by the pictures here on google maps, which i did not find. They now believe that coffee works is under new management from the previous time they were there. I somewhat understand the menu change, and tbh i abhor the fact that $15 for a sandwich is standard. My friends did actually place an order which you even got wrong. They ordered some cake and 2 coffees, but received 3 cups (of which i assumed they paid for, but did not order the 3rd) and the cakes actually made us crook. The pink cake was just jelly, and the "gluten free" option was not free of gluten. Which if you got that wrong could have killed them. Not a joke.

Youll also find my reviews are a lot closer to 50/50. Not 90%. Do not generalise. It looks bad on you. I give honest reviews, even if sometimes a bit heated. As is my prerogative as a customer.

Im sure its not that hard to have a small grinder to make single serves. As I mentioned above, put out a sign that says you dont offer this service. And maybe put something online too. I like my coffee typically white and sweet aswell. But i still appreciate the quality of a good coffee. Hearing about a coffee place with so many i genuinely got excited, and without a sign its fair to expect an "espresso bar" would offer a wide variety of tastings. Maybe take these reviews on board as constructive criticism.

As i have noticed i am not the first negative review you have...

We called in here to get some nice fresh beans for our coffee machine. We usually buy bold strong sweet style. They’re not doing tasters at the moment, because of covid. So the only way we could ‘test’ was to buy a coffee cup of their black mountain beans coffee. Ok
We decided we could share this cup and we would buy some lunch - pie, salad and quiche. Pie was great, salad was awesome but I wouldn’t recommend the quiche at all. Didn’t seem to be fresh. We decided to buy a bag of the coffee beans, hubby said go buy a couple of bags of some other stuff too. But not being able to taste. Having to refer to a chart only and scratching my head at not being advised which beans were grown where I decided just to get the black mountain one that they say is their own. Oh btw the prices are way up their. We were excited so next morning we poured the beans into our machine but was very disappointed as the flavor was bitter and way stronger than at the shop. Good creama and I’ve since turned the dose down so as not to grind out a double shot and it’s a bit nicer today. Husband thinks the coffee tastes a bit stale. The puk didn’t look good. I think it tastes like the American style they make over their
Burnt roasted. So just a warning to others. If you do buy some you may find it strong bitter and burnt. Shop is filled with lovely gifts if your looking for xssy presents. Especially the Christmas chocolate selections. Just beautiful. But they lost 2 stars on coffee, price...
